Back in July 2024, Wrexham striker Paul Mullin surprised Ryan Reynolds in hilarious fashion live on the radio.

Wrexham striker Paul Mullin left the club on loan to Wigan Athletic this summer after Phil Parkinson made it clear that the legendary striker would not be part of his plans this season.

Despite the decision made by Parkinson, it by no means undermines the hero status that the Liverpudlian has acquired at the Racecourse Ground following the part he played in the three Wrexham promotions.

As well as the quality he displayed on the pitch, Mullin also created an unmistakable bond with Wrexham owner Ryan Reynolds.

The Red Dragons striker always showed his personality at the club, including one moment where he poked fun at Reynolds after a surprise call-in when the Wrexham owner was live on the radio.

When Paul Mullin pranked Ryan Reynolds live on the radio

Ahead of the 2024/25 season, Paul Mullin found himself out through injury, so in his spare time, he thought it was a good time to play a prank on Ryan Reynolds.

The Wrexham owner was live on BBC Radio 1’s Breakfast Show, taking in calls until he heard an unmistakable Liverpudlian accent.

As recalled on Leader Live, Mullin anonymously called into the show, where he said: “Rob McElhenney is the best Wrexham owner.”

Reynolds then replied: “I know that voice.

“Mullin why aren’t you doing calisthenics right now buddy? Maybe stretch that recently fixed back out a little bit, maybe make good on an investment and a promise that we made.”

Following his back and forth with the Red Dragons owner, Mullin then said: “Both wonderful as owners and more than that just as people. We get to see them as people rather than owners now.

“As we’ve seen in the documentary what they’ve done for the community is phenomenal and our success is obviously down to them, and their success with the club is down to us which is brilliant and long may it continue.”

In response, Reynolds then hit Mullin and the Wrexham squad at the time with a huge compliment, having said: “We’ve got the best locker room in the entire world and it’s led by guys like that, I really feel incredibly lucky.”

Wrexham striker Paul Mullin has always had a brilliant friendship with Ryan Reynolds and Rob Mac

As well as the bond that Paul Mullin struck with Ryan Reynolds, he also became a great friend of Rob Mac’s.

Mullin once reflected on his first impressions of Wrexham owner Mac, where he said: “Rob was so enthusiastic about the whole plan, and I was impressed by what they were trying to do. Beforehand, I’d read a couple of things about how exciting the project was, how much they wanted to make it work; now, having spoken to Rob, I could feel it in his voice, his attitude.

“This wasn’t just two blokes messing about. This was totally for real. When I picked up the phone, I hadn’t decided whether I was going to go to Wrexham or not. When I put the phone down, my mind was made up.”

After talking to the owners, Mullin just needed two days to decide he wanted to join Wrexham, and what a brilliant decision it was for his career.

Mullin would never have expected to achieve worldwide status whilst at Wrexham, and there is no doubt that he is the most deserving of that after the impact he has had at the club.
