Wrexham are starting to look abroad for new signings, but Phil Parkinson has now seen one target move elsewhere in the Championship.

The summer transfer window has entered its final few weeks, and Wrexham may still have business to complete.

Phil Parkinson has completed eight summer signings as Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds continue to back him with funds to take Wrexham forward.

Despite spending upwards of £10million on new signings this summer, there is still scope for further additions.

Parkinson has admitted having several targets in mind for Wrexham, and further attacking additions may be the focus.

Wrexham are keen on Nathan Broadhead, though progress over a £7.5million deal for the Ipswich Town attacker has been slow.

Sontje Hansen joins Middlesbrough after Wrexham interest

Parkinson may even have his eye on alternative attacking options abroad.

Liberato Cacace joined Wrexham earlier this summer and became the first player to arrive outside of the UK and Ireland in the Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds era.

Speculation has linked Wrexham with further overseas additions, with Sontje Hansen a surprise target earlier in the window.

Rumours from the Netherlands suggested that Wrexham wanted to sign former Ajax talent Hansen from NEC Nijmegen.

The speedy winger hit six goals and four assists last season, and will now play in the Championship – but not with Wrexham.

Middlesbrough have confirmed the signing of Hansen, handing him a four-year contract at the Riverside Stadium.

The Northern Echo claim that Boro are paying €3.5million (£3million) for Hansen, with head of recruitment Chris Jones tracking the Dutchman for seven years.

Phil Parkinson admitted Dutch contact

Hansen will now be in line to face Wrexham twice this season, first at the Riverside Stadium on 25 October.

Wrexham host Boro at the STōK Cae Ras on 2 May, meaning Hansen could face Parkinson’s side on the final day of the Championship season.

Parkinson may have preferred to wait for Broadhead rather than move in for Hansen, but he has at least been in contact with Dutch agents.

Speaking earlier this month, Parkinson admitted speaking to agents in the Netherlands to discuss potential Wrexham signings.

“I’m in touch with quite a few Dutch agents, who have spoken to me about quite a few players over the summer, but that’s normal because a lot of players want to come to the UK, because they know that, if they do well in the Championship, the next step is the Premier League,” said Parkinson.

Hansen would certainly make sense as one target, but he has now completed his move to Boro and will play against Wrexham this season.
