Wrexham are still pushing to complete a record-breaking transfer for Nathan Broadhead but Ipswich Town need reinforcements first, Wrexham Insider understands.

Wrexham have agreed a fee with Ipswich in the region of £7.5m for Broadhead but so far the transfer has stalled.

Ipswich are reluctant to let Broadhead go without having sufficient cover in their squad, but recently signed Chuba Akpom on loan from Ajax for the season.

Phil Parkinson was coy on Broadhead when asked about the Wales international before the Southampton clash but will be hoping that progress can be made soon.

Wrexham still ‘pushing’ to complete £7.5m Nathan Broadhead transfer

Kieran McKenna has admitted Broadhead wants to join Wrexham but Ipswich are yet to allow him permission to join the Red Dragons.

Wrexham Insider’s chief transfer expert Graeme Bailey has claimed that Parkinson is still ‘pushing’ for Broadhead but understands that Ipswich need reinforcements first.

Bailey stated: “Wrexham are still pushing and they know the player wants to come but it is dependent on Ipswich’s own plans – they won’t allow themselves to be left short.”

Broadhead came on for the last 25 minutes of Ipswich’s opening day draw at Birmingham City and would be another excellent addition to Wrexham’s forward options.

Parkinson will be even more eager to get a deal over the line after news that Kieffer Moore sustained an injury in the defeat against Southampton.

Where would Nathan Broadhead fit in at Wrexham?

Parkinson’s team selection against Southampton on the opening day gave an indication that he is set to continue with his 3-5-2 formation.

Broadhead is naturally a left winger, but likes to cut inside and roam in a more central position to pick up the ball and drive at defences.

It could be that Parkinson eventually drops Josh Windass a little deeper and uses more of a box formation in midfield, with Broadhead playing alongside Windass behind a striker.

With Moore’s injury set to keep him out for a number of games, it is now an opportunity for Ryan Hardie and Sam Smith to stake their claim up top.
