Phil Parkinson responds when asked for progress on Nathan Broadhead’s potential Wrexham transfer

Wrexham completed the signing of Kieffer Moore this week, but Phil Parkinson is still chasing more attacking quality.

Wrexham take on Southampton on Saturday afternoon, kicking off the Championship campaign with a big trip to the South Coast.

This opening trip feels almost perfect, given that Parkinson started his career in the Southampton youth ranks.

The squad Parkinson takes to the South Coast looks very different from the one which clinched promotion from League One back in April.

Wrexham have made eight signings this summer, bolstering Parkinson’s options all over the pitch.

Parkinson has placed a keen focus on attacking additions, with Wrexham snapping up Kieffer Moore from Sheffield United earlier this week.

Phil Parkinson on Nathan Broadhead to Wrexham

Moore joins fellow new recruits Ryan Hardie and Josh Windass at the STōK Cae Ras, but Parkinson’s attacking revolution may not be over just yet.

Wrexham are chasing Nathan Broadhead as another addition in the final third, with the Welshman offering versatility across the front line.

Reports last week suggested that Wrexham had thrashed out a deal to sign Broadhead for around £7.5million, which would set a new club record.

Ipswich are yet to sign off on that deal, though boss Kieran McKenna has confirmed that Broadhead wants to join Wrexham.

Parkinson has been asked for an update on Wrexham’s pursuit, and he understandably remained fairly coy.

The Wrexham boss told BBC Sport that he doesn’t have any update and is unaware of any developments regarding Wrexham’s pursuit of Broadhead.

Parkinson noted that Broadhead is an Ipswich player until Wrexham inform him of progress, though he did admit that Wrexham are looking into a ‘number of deals’.

“I honestly don’t know anything today, whether there’s been any developments,” said Parkinson. “He’s Ipswich Town’s player. Until I’m told different, that’s the way it’ll stay.

“There’s a number of deals we’re looking into at the moment,” he added.

Wrexham may need to stay patient on Nathan Broadhead

Broadhead wants to join Wrexham, and that is half of the battle in terms of getting a deal done.

Wrexham are confident of signing Broadhead, but some patience may be required.

Ipswich have seen Jaden Philogene go down with an injury, while Omari Hutchinson is attracting Premier League interest.

The Tractor Boys need Broadhead right now, but a move to Wrexham may accelerate once players return from injury and their transfer situation becomes clearer.

Parkinson would have loved to have Broadhead on board for the trip to Southampton, but Wrexham’s patience will hopefully pay off with a new club-record deal before the window ends.
