Wrexham have completed the signing of Jay Rodriguez and Burnley fans have now sent messages to Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney.

The Red Dragons have clearly been working very hard behind the scenes on the back of their 3-2 loss to Stevenage earlier this week.

With a move for Michael Smith off the cards, Wrexham turned their attention to two more strikers.

Firstly, after only being linked on Thursday, Sam Smith joined the Red Dragons from Reading in a club-record deal.

It was more good news for fans just moments later, meanwhile, as Wrexham were linked with Jay Rodriguez of Burnley.

Just as quickly as he was linked, however, Rodriguez was officially announced as the Welsh outfit’s third signing of the January transfer window.

Rodriguez made 310 senior appearances for the Clarets during two spells at the club, scoring 76 and assisting 24.

Now, after completing a move from Turf Moor, Burnley fans have taken to social media to react to the news, with several sending messages to Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney.

One fan wrote: Look after him @VancityReynolds and @RMcElhenney he’s Burnley royalty.”

A second echoed: “Take good care of him, he’s one of our own. A damn good man and player. Wishing you all the best. @JayRodriguez9 (I’ll have to come catch a match soon @RMcElhenney @VancityReynold)

Another Burnley fan wrote: “He’s one of our own and always will be. A fantastic footballer and good guy. We @BurnleyOfficial were privileged to have him in our team. Good luck to you @JayRodriguez9 at your new club, hope all goes well for you. You’ll always be a Claret.”

A fourth wrote: “Take good care of him for us, he’ll be missed! Good luck Jay!”

“Take care of our boy!! All the best Jay,” a fifth Clarets fan stated.

While a sixth added: “Look after him has never been more true! He’s one of our own! Smash it Jay!”

Jay Rodriguez first words as Wrexham player

Rodriguez is now 35 years of age and somewhat surprisingly, Wrexham have signed him to a contract that runs until the end of the 2025/26 season.

He joins a long list of ageing forwards at the club but if he is capable of producing moments similar to that of another former Premier League forward, Steven Fletcher, that won’t matter this season.

After signing, Rodriguez has now spoken out for the first time via the club’s official website.

He said: “I’m made up to join the club. I can’t wait to get out on the training pitch and meet everyone.

“I hope I can use my experience to help every single player in the squad and gain something from the group as well.

“To join the story that has evolved at Wrexham with clear targets is exciting for me.”
