Wrexham are closing in on their tenth signing of the summer as Callum Doyle talks continue to progress.
Wrexham are ‘closing in’ on Doyle after making progress with Manchester City over a reported £8m deal for the 21-year-old.
Phil Parkinson labelled his side ‘too soft’ after the defeat at home to West Brom, where the Red Dragons gifted goals away with some sloppy defending.
Wrexham are continuing to persist with their rigid 3-5-2 system and all eyes are on where Doyle fits into Parkinson’s plans. The City youngster has already made it clear where he thinks his best position is.

Callum Doyle thinks his best position is at centre back
Conor Coady has been brought into the club to play at the heart of a back three with the youthful Max Cleworth and Lewis Brunt either side.
The opening exchanges of the Championship campaign suggests that whilst Cleworth and Brunt clearly have ability to play in the second tier, further reinforcements are needed to help guide them.
Despite being just 21, Doyle has a wealth of experience in the division having had loan spells at the likes of Norwich City and Coventry City.
Speaking to The PinkUn back in 2024, Doyle told Norwich City fans that he felt his best position was at centre back.
Doyle stated: “I’ve been playing that position, that left back position that comes inside but also I do like playing centre back.”
“I do have a few positions that I play. I do like centre back because you get a bit more of the ball and I can show what I can do on the ball.
“If the manager wants me to play left back then I can play that position, I’ll happily play it.”
Callum Doyle looks the perfect candidate to play on the left of Wrexham’s back three
Lewis Brunt looked nervy against West Brom and whilst the Wrexham youngster will need time to adapt to the step up in quality, Parkinson knows that he can’t afford to drop too many points at the start of the campaign.
Doyle has a wonderful range of passing, is composed on the ball but ultimately loves defending and proved that at Carrow Road last season.
| Callum Doyle’s career by position | Appearances | Goals | Assists |
| Centre back | 133 | 4 | 8 |
| Left back | 38 | 1 | 8 |
He looks primed to take that spot on the left side of the back three with Brunt providing excellent cover and competition.
£8m would see him become Wrexham’s second most expensive transfer of all time, however, the potential of the Man City graduate means it could be an absolute steal in terms of value for money in modern football.
