Wrexham did not have the winning return to the Racecourse Ground they were looking for in their Championship clash.
Wrexham’s 3-2 defeat to West Brom means that the Red Dragons have now suffered successive defeats upon their return to the second tier.
Wrexham fans fear the injury to Josh Windass could keep their talisman out for a while after the 32-year-old immediately clutched his hamstring and was replaced by Nathan Broadhead in the first half.
Danny Ward infuriated supporters for his part in West Brom’s second goal and another Wrexham performance may just have forced Phil Parkinson’s hand in the transfer market once again.

Lewis Brunt struggles for Wrexham in defeat to West Brom
Whilst the players deserve time to adapt to the step in quality of the Championship, Parkinson cannot afford for the settling in period to drag on for too long.
Lewis Brunt had a hard time up against Tom Fellows of West Brom and was booked early on in the game for pulling back the winger on the break.
Brunt should have got closer to Isaac Price for West Brom’s opening goal and the young defender looked out of his depth, particularly in the first half.
| Wrexham v West Brom match statistics | Brunt |
| Minutes played | 90 |
| Touches | 84 |
| Dribbled past | 1 |
| Ground duels won | 2/6 |
| Aerial duels won | 3/5 |
Parkinson described his side’s defending as ‘soft’ during his post-match interview with Sky Sports and Wrexham will have to tighten up defensively.
Brunt will no doubt be determined to put the performance behind him quickly and move on to the Sheffield Wednesday clash.
There is no doubt that the 22-year-old has the ability to play at this level, he may just need some more experience around him to help him grow into the division.
Phil Parkinson’s plans to sign another defender for Wrexham have become more urgent
Parkinson is not finished yet in the transfer market and after securing his ninth signing of the summer in Broadhead, his focus is now on defensive options.
Wrexham are interested in Calum Chambers from Cardiff City and have also explored a move for Sheffield United’s Jack Robinson.
With Conor Coady and Max Cleworth seemingly certain starters for the Red Dragons, Parkinson is looking for another option to provide competition and cover for Brunt.
The young defender’s display against West Brom would only have further convinced Parkinson that Wrexham’s business needs to continue in the final few weeks of the window.
