Wrexham made a real statement to the Championship with their summer transfer business.

Wrexham outspent Barcelona and a host of European giants after Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney gave the green light to thirteen new acquisitions.

Phil Parkinson named his Championship squad for the first half of the season with the depth in each position giving Wrexham a real chance of progressing up the table.

The Red Dragons were focused on strengthening their midfield and defence on deadline day with the captures of Ben Sheaf and Dominic Hyam. However, there were also near misses with other transfer targets.

Tom Rawcliffe ‘really happy’ Zak Vyner remains at Bristol City amid Wrexham bids

Wrexham had bids rejected for Zak Vyner during the final days of the transfer window with Bristol City reluctant to let the 28-year-old leave the club.

Speaking to BBC Sport, Bristol City Chief Executive Tom Rawcliffe has expressed his relief at keeping Vyner at the club despite the ‘Hollywood’ attraction of the Red Dragons.

Rawcliffe stated: “We’re really happy we managed to keep Zak Vyner. Wrexham were in for him and I can understand the appeal of Wrexham and Hollywood money and everything else and the excitement.

“I think it shows the commitment to keeping the core of our squad which did so well last season, having that backing of the ownership that we don’t have to accept any bid that comes in.

“Zak Vyner is a really integral part of our team and, as a man, is exactly the sort of person you want in that changing room and representing Bristol City.”

Phil Parkinson has perfect mix of youth and experience in his Wrexham defensive options

Despite missing out on Vyner, Parkinson will be delighted with his defensive options heading into a hectic period of the season.

Conor Coady is likely to lead the defence at the heart of the back three but is now joined by Hyam’s experience in the Championship.

Max Cleworth and Lewis Brunt are very much learning their trade at this level, whilst Callum Doyle is one of the most exciting prospects in the second tier.

It is now down to the Wrexham boss to find that perfect blend of youth experience, however, he has real depth in each position that he can call upon at different moments.
