How Wrexham feel about keeping Manchester City loanee Issa Kabore permanently

Wrexham have unearthed a gem in Issa Kabore, who has hit the ground running following his deadline move from Man City.

The summer was a busy one in North Wales, with Wrexham signing three new players on deadline day alone, taking their summer spending total to £33million.

Issa Kabore joined on loan from Man City and he wasted no time in shining, claiming two assists on his debut as Wrexham won 3-2 away at Norwich City last month.

The Burkina Faso right-back grabbed himself another assist in his next appearance against Derby County and has, on the whole, looked like a very promising player.

Phil Parkinson is clearly utilising the 24-year-old to full extent, too. Wrexham players are always looking to get the ball out wide to Kabore who’s been providing some very enticing crosses.

Wrexham want to keep Issa Kabore beyond this season

Speaking to Wrexham Insider, chief transfer correspondent Graeme Bailey has revealed that the Dragons are now keen on signing Kabore on a permanent deal from Man City, but insists that nothing is set in stone right now.

Bailey revealed: “Issa Kabore has been outstanding for Wrexham, them getting him to drop into the Championship was a major coup and they are delighted with how it has gone. Clearly Wrexham would love to keep him, but nothing is decided yet.

“City are keeping tabs on him and will assess. Let’s not forget City are not blessed with many right-back options so could we see him get a chance? Unlikely, but let’s see how it goes in the coming months.”

Joining Man City in 2020, Kabore is yet to make a Premier League appearance for Pep Guardiola’s side. Instead, Kabore has now ventured out on loan seven times, with his contract at the Etihad running until the summer of 2027.

What Phil Parkinson thinks about Issa Kabore’s Wrexham form

So far for Wrexham, Kabore has made four appearances and the Dragons are unbeaten whenever he’s played. On top of that, Wrexham have scored six goals in the four games he’s played.

Speaking after the Derby game, Parkinson raved about Kabore’s Wrexham form, saying: “Issa was brilliant again today. It’s his quality, but he fights for every ball, he gets back quickly, he’s a good defender, and that was a goal that will be up there with the contenders for one of the best goals in the Championship today.

“He plays with a real heart and commitment. When we watched him, I really liked that about him. He runs back as quick as he goes forward. He’s tenacious, he wants to win, and he’s a great signing for us.”

Kabore has certainly impressed and if Wrexham could sign him on a permanent deal then it would surely prove to be one of the best signings they’ve made so far under Ryan Reynolds and Rob Mac.

For now though, Man City will just be monitoring his form in the Championship, potentially looking to cash in next summer should his stock keep on increasing.
