How Wrexham really feel about Paul Mullin and Ollie Palmer ahead of summer window, there’s ‘a lot of work’ to do

While the main focus for Wrexham on the pitch is getting promotion, many fans are wondering about one player who’s not been seen in weeks, and we can exclusively reveal how the club plans to deal with legends like Paul Mullin and Ollie Palmer.

Wrexham are just four games away from securing an incredible third-successive promotion, with the Championship now within touching distance.

There’s still work to be done, of course, with Wrexham needing to grind it out for the final run-in and keep Wycombe at bay to secure automatic promotion.

But, Phil Parkinson’s men may be getting the job done when it comes to circumstances on the pitch, but there is growing concern over the future of Paul Mullin and, to a degree, his former strike partner, Ollie Palmer.

The Wrexham Insider has exclusive information on the future of the two players, with details on how the club plans to operate in the summer transfer window.

Wrexham heroes will get ‘no loyalty’ this summer

We spoke to TBR Football’s transfer expert Graeme Bailey about the situation at Wrexham ahead of the summer, and it sounds like there’s very little hope for Mullin and Palmer to resurrect their careers at the Racecourse Ground.

Bailey said: “I do think we see some of the Wrexham heroes moves on – none more so than the likes of Mullin and Palmer, although if they are willing to play bit-parts going forward, they may still hang around.

“But I expect a bit of a reset – there won’t be loyalty. Wrexham realise this squad isn’t really good enough but they will do a lot of work this summer. Unlike even Birmingham, Wrexham’s management team know the Championship – that is an advantage.”

While fans have urged Wrexham to give Mullin a chance in the Championship, we know the Red Dragons plan to max out their £39m allowance if and when they make it to the second tier, and that will give them ample opportunity to replace the once-talismanic striker.

It’s time for Paul Mullin to put himself first

We have seen in the past that Wrexham do not act with sentimentality when it comes to transfers, with the likes of Luke Young, Jordan Davies, and Ben Tozer all moving on in seasons gone by as the club evolves.

The same looks destined to happen to Mullin and Palmer now, but to be honest, the pair should see this as a blessing in disguise as they enter the final stages of their careers.

For Mullin in particular, there is still time to get a successful move in the summer and make something of himself again elsewhere.

Parkinson has made it clear he doesn’t want Mullin, but Mullin needs to be selfish now and secure his own future. He will forever be remembered as a Wrexham legend, and he can hold his head high if he does move on.
