Wrexham struggled when they clashed with Wigan Athletic in one of Saturday’s early League One kick-offs
After a major victory last weekend, Wrexham opened up a six-point gap over Wycombe Wanderers for the second automatic promotion place.
However, after the Chairboys won their game in hand, that was reduced to just three going into the weekend’s action.
The Red Dragons were up against Wigan Athletic, while Mike Dodds’ men were taking on Stevenage – both winnable games.
As expected, Wycombe got the job done in their game, but Wrexham drew 0-0 with Wigan, seeing their lead in the race for second reduced to a single point.
It now likely means Phil Parkinson’s side will have to win their remaining four matches if they want to guarantee an automatic spot.
Following Saturday’s match, Wrexham fans were furious after their team failed to have a single shot on target across the 90 minutes.

Wrexham fans make Paul Mullin demand after Wigan Athletic
This is not the first time Wrexham have struggled at the top end of the pitch this season, with Parkinson opting to bring in two new centre-forwards over the winter to solve this issue.
But after a goalless outing on April 12, fans are now calling for Paul Mullin – who hasn’t featured since January 28 – to make his return.
However, it remains clear to the majority that even though they want him back, it’s unlikely to happen.
One fan wrote: “It’s time. Bring him back.”
But a second replied: “Would be amazed if he makes the bench again. Amazed.”
“It was time 3 months ago,” a third wrote, followed by several angry emojis.
Another claimed: “Not even Mullin would’ve made a difference in that game, which just shows how bad we were. But must be wondering how is he not at least making the bench with Rodriguez starting.”
A fifth supporter simply wrote “Definitely,” alongside a 100 percent emoji.
While a sixth added: “Would be a fairy tale ending to the season! Sadly can’t see Phil taking the chance.”
Why aren’t Wrexham scoring many goals
Low-scoring matches have not been uncommon in Wales this season, with Rob McElhenney reacting to Wrexham winning 1-0 a lot this season after they did so against Stockport County recently.
For the most part, the club’s superb defensive record has been able to offset the lack of goals produced this season, but the reduced threat did prove costly versus Wigan.
There may be a number of reasons for this, with Wrexham fans not pleased with Jay Rodriguez amid his ongoing search for an open-play goal since arriving on January 31.
A lack of a creative number-10 style midfielder when Elliot Lee is not in the eleven has hampered the Red Dragons at times as well.
Wrexham are interested in Tom Lawrence, who could solve this issue, but for the final four games of 2024/25, Parkinson will have to try something else to get his side firing once more.
