Wrexham made 13 signings over the summer as Phil Parkinson racked up a transfer bill of more than £30million following promotion to the Championship.

Wrexham were expected to spend on new signings over the summer after clinching promotion from League One.

Rob Mac and Ryan Reynolds certainly backed Phil Parkinson in the transfer market, with 13 new faces arriving at the STōK Cae Ras.

Nathan Broadhead became Wrexham’s new record signing in August, finalising a £7.5million move from Ipswich Town, which could reach £10million.

A handful of other seven-figure signings were made, with the likes of Liberato Cacace, George Thomason, Lewis O’Brien, Conor Coady, Kieffer Moore, Callum Doyle, Ben Sheaf and Dominic Hyam all arriving.

How Wrexham’s summer spending compares to Premier League clubs

Wrexham outspent Barcelona over the summer, racking up a summer spending bill of around £32.8million, rising to £39.6million.

Fans surely can’t have expected to see this kind of spending, even when Rob Mac and Ryan Reynolds bought Wrexham in 2021.

Wrexham’s spending has blown many Championship clubs away this summer, and Parkinson will hope to have built a strong side for this level.

Premier League football remains the dream for Wrexham, but the spending in the top flight still far exceeds Parkinson’s summer outlay.

BBC Sport report that Fulham were the lowest spenders of the window, spending just £34.5million – higher than Wrexham’s initial spend, but lower than the potential total value.

Loans for Samuel Chukwueze and Jonah Kusi-Asare won’t have been free, but Fulham’s permanent outlay was very similar to Wrexham’s.

The same goes for Aston Villa, who spent around £37.5million on permanent additions in a fairly quiet summer for Unai Emery’s side.

Crystal Palace, Brighton, Brentford and Leeds United were the only other Premier League clubs to spend under £100million on signings this summer.

A handful of clubs spent more than £200million on signings, highlighting the astonishing spending power in the top flight.

Wrexham can spend again in January

Wrexham enjoyed a remarkable summer of spending, but Parkinson may not be finished just yet.

Planning for the January transfer window will have already started, and last season’s winter window proved crucial.

Wrexham spent £2.5million on landing Ryan Longman, Sam Smith and Jay Rodriguez, securing promotion to the Championship just months later.

Wrexham have the room to spend again in January, with another £10million potentially at Parkinson’s disposal on new recruits.

Much will depend on whether Wrexham are in contention for the play-offs, but Parkinson appears to have the backing to bring in significant signings in the quest for Premier League football.
