Humphrey Ker details his hilarious contribution to Wrexham transfer strategy after role change

Wrexham had a very busy 2025 summer transfer window, and Humphrey Ker has discussed his role.

Unlike most Championship teams, Wrexham’s recruitment team is pretty small.

Phil Parkinson has the final say on transfers, with Ryan Reynolds and Rob Mac only really getting involved when a deal is nearly done.

Humphrey Ker, who helped inspire Mac to initially buy a football team, is more involved in the recruitment process.

But as he revealed this week, his contributions are fairly limited.

Humphrey Ker role in Wrexham transfers

Wrexham signed 13 players this summer before adding a free-agent goalkeeper to their squad post-deadline after an injury to Danny Ward.

Ker, who was previously Executive Director, had his role changed to Community Director earlier this year.

Now, speaking to Chris Moyles this week, he has discussed his new role at the club and his hilarious contribution when it comes to signing players.

He said: “So I sit on the board of directors of the club, but my main area of influence is around the Wrexham AFC foundation, which is our charitable arm.

“So I sit in all the board meetings and I’m part of the transfer committee, albeit I mostly just go ‘oh he looks good’ or ‘isn’t he tall, good hair’, and sort of nonspecific lack of expertise chat.

“My day job, as far as the club’s concerned, is our foundation.”

Wrexham January transfer budget

Wrexham spent £33m in the 2025 summer window, which could rise closer to £40m with add-ons.

However, despite being the third-highest spenders in the Championship this season, they still have room to splash more cash this winter.

Should they wish to do so, Wrexham could spend £10m in January without having any PSR issues.

The club have already made wholesale changes to their squad in 2025/26, but if they continue to struggle in the Championship, more quality could be added midway through the campaign.
