Wrexham have been given a boost in pursuit of one of their transfer targets this week.

The Red Dragons have already been linked with a number of names as they look to bolster their ranks during the 2025 winter transfer window.

Wrexham won’t be signing Patrick Bamford this month but Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds could still sanction two transfers in the coming weeks.

As is to be expected, a new striker looks to be on the agenda for the Welsh outfit this month with none of their current options anywhere close to their top form.

A few Championship names have been linked, with The Wrexham Insider first revealing interest in Leeds United hitman, Joe Gelhardt.

Wrexham target Joe Gelhardt can leave Leeds United

Gelhardt is currently earning £15,000-a-week at Elland Road following a move from Wigan Athletic in 2020, as per Capology.

His game time has been very limited in 2024/25, however, earning just nine minutes of action in the Championship.

Now, speaking to the media ahead of Leeds’ game this weekend, manager Danie Farke has spoken out on the Wrexham target.

And he has confirmed that Gelhardt can leave and has been allowed to speak with other clubs.

He said: “I’ve allowed him to have conversations. And when he feels it is best for him, he will knock at my door. But that’s not happened yet.

“Let’s see what happens over next few days.”

Wrexham face competition to sign Joe Gelhardt

The 22-year-old has made a total of 57 appearances for Leeds’ senior side, scoring three and assisting five.

His goalscoring record isn’t exactly prolific but a drop down to League One could be just what the Englishman needs to get his career going.

However, Wrexham look set to face competition from several Championship clubs for his signature.

Various teams have been linked, with Football League World naming Hull City and Luton Town as two of the sides interested alongside Wrexham.
