Patrick Bamford is still available as a free agent and has been linked to one of Wrexham’s Championship rivals recently.

After interest in January, Wrexham were tipped to sign Patrick Bamford again in May.

The former Middlesbrough player is now out of contract and remains on the free-agent market as of mid-October after departing Leeds United.

Wrexham can’t sign any free agents this year now that Ollie Rathbone has taken the final place in their Championship squad, but rivals Portsmouth have been linked to Bamford recently.

Portsmouth manager dismisses Patrick Bamford interest

Bamford has excelled in the second tier previously, including a prolific spell with Boro in 2014/15 when he was on loan from Chelsea.

However, as per The News, Pompey boss John Mousinho has now spoken out on links to Bamford, dismissing them outright.

He said: “There’s nothing in that at all, I don’t know where that’s come from at all.”

The Englishman has scored 69 goals in 217 matches in the Championship for various clubs, but he will not be returning to the division with Portsmouth or Wrexham this year.

But while Bamford will not be signing for them in 2025, the Dragons are on the lookout for attacking reinforcements this season.

Should Wrexham move for Patrick Bamford in January

It has been reported this week that Wrexham can sign a striker in the 2026 winter transfer window after being given the green light by Ryan Reynolds and Rob Mac.

If Bamford is still available as a free agent next year, he could be an option for the Welsh outfit.

However, the ex-Chelsea starlet has a similar profile to Sam Smith and Ryan Hardie, which isn’t really what Parkinson needs.

Instead, cover for Kieffer Moore should be looked at, as there are no other quality target men in Parkinson’s squad following Steven Fletcher’s retirement and Ollie Palmer leaving for Swindon Town.

We have suggested Tobias Lauritsen as an option for Wrexham, though no official targets have emerged yet.
