The January transfer window is still two and a half months away, but Wrexham already have plans to strengthen.

Ryan Reynolds and Rob Mac backed Wrexham heavily during the 2025 summer transfer window.

13 players were signed for an initial outlay of £33m, which could rise closer to £40m if add-ons in certain deals are met.

The Red Dragons’ transfer record was smashed several times as well, with Nathan Broadhead costing an initial £7.5m from Ipswich Town.

Wrexham’s transfer spend was the third-highest in the Championship in the latest window, but it’s now been reported that at least one more addition has been greenlit for the winter.

Ryan Reynolds and Rob Mac to let Wrexham sign a striker

Wrexham’s striker department saw wholesale changes during the summer.

Paul Mullin moved to Wigan Athletic on loan, Ollie Palmer is now at Swindon Town, Steven Fletcher has retired and Jack Marriott signed for Reading.

Kieffer Moore and Ryan Hardie were signed as natural replacements, while Broadhead can play up front if needed.

However, it’s become apparent that Wrexham have no natural back-up for Moore now Palmer and Fletcher are gone.

The Welsh international has excelled in the big-man role, but the Dragons need more cover for him moving forward.

On that front, CEO Today are reporting that Reynolds and Mac have greenlit a January move for a new striker.

How much can Wrexham spend in January transfer window

While it’s unlikely to please rival fans, Wrexham can continue spending in January without having to worry about PSR problems.

The Wrexham Insider previously spoke to finance expert Adam Williams about the club’s January business, and he told us the Dragons could pay out £10m over the winter without having any issues.

He said: “We saw a Leeds executive recently say Sunderland were probably promoted with the biggest PSR headroom in the history of the system. But if Wrexham go up, they will probably have even more.

“So yes, I think they could comfortably spend another £10m or so in January if they think it’s necessary. Cash flow is a separate analysis to PSR, of course, but the £30m-odd they spent in the summer will be paid for on instalments, as will any January spending. And their revenue should cover it regardless.

“Wrexham are in a unique position in so many ways. Financially, they are already a dominant force in the EFL. There was a lot of talk about how they might have to take more of a slow-burn approach in the Championship.

“But looking purely at the resources at their disposal, I would say they should be aiming for immediate success.”
