Wrexham still remain active in the transfer market despite already adding eight new additions to their squad.

Nathan Broadhead wants to leave Ipswich Town with Wrexham having already agreed a fee for the Wales international but that deal is on hold for now with Ipswich looking to find a replacement before sanctioning an exit.

Phil Parkinson knows that departures will need to happen with his squad now over 30 first-team players and Elliot Lee is expected to leave the club given the strength in depth in midfield.

With the Championship opener at Southampton on the horizon, Parkinson will now have to juggle his attentions between transfers and matters on the pitch, however, he has been warned that he should not be making any hasty decisions with just weeks remaining of the window.

Phil Parkinson warned that Lewis Koumas would have to registered in Wrexham’s 25-man squad

EFL restrictions are affecting Wrexham’s business this summer and Parkinson can only name a 25-man squad once the window slams shut.

Wrexham are advancing over a loan move for Lewis Koumas and although the Liverpool youngster is only 19, he would still have to be registered in that squad.

Speaking on the latest episode of the ‘Rob.Ryan.Red’ podcast, journalist Nathan Salt has warned that Parkinson will need to be ‘selective’ over the upcoming decisions he makes.

Salt stated: “Lewis Koumas, really interesting, this has emerged that there’s a lot of clubs pushing for a season-long loan move. That is what Liverpool are looking to sanction. I mean, if there was a really good offer, maybe you could get him on a permanent but I think Wrexham are looking at the season-long loan.

“But what I do want to stress. I’ve seen this kind of misinformation, I mean I was ill-informed previously, so I’ve only really kind of clocked this this week. Regardless of age, a loan player would count against your 25-man cap.

“They would have to be registered whether they’re 19,20, they would count against your 25-man cap so don’t think like Lewis Koumas would be a freebie like Harry Ashfield. You need to be very selective.”

Steven Schumacher thinks Koumas is ‘talented’ having worked with the youngster at Stoke City last season during a season-long loan spell.

There is no doubting the quality that Koumas possesses, the Red Dragons just now have to weigh up whether he is worth a spot in a tight 25-man squad.

Other Premier League loans Wrexham could consider

If Parkinson can sanction a number of departures from the club, it may open up room for one or two more loan deals from the Premier League.

Parkinson has so far been reluctant to utilise the loan market and Koumas would join just Arthur Okonkwo as the two loan deals made during his tenure at the club.

Having bought Conor Coady to add experience to the defence, there might be scope for signing a young centre back as cover like Manchester United’s Tyler Fredricson.

After having a good relationship with Arsenal following the deal with Okonkwo, the Gunners may also be willing to loan out the likes of Tommy Setford in goal or full back Josh Nichols.

It is a market that usually comes alive in the final few weeks of the window as Premier League clubs finalise their squads and Wrexham need to be alert to finding some real gems.
