Wrexham released goalkeeper Brad Foster this summer, and he has now found himself a new club up in Scotland.

Wrexham snapped up Danny Ward this week as Phil Parkinson moved to strengthen his goalkeeping options.

Ward arrives as backup to Arthur Okonkwo and will seemingly leapfrog Callum Burton in the pecking order.

Parkinson may have wanted three quality goalkeepers due to issues between the sticks last season.

Burton picked up an injury just a handful of games after Okonkwo went down with a wrist problem.

Wrexham were able to carry a number of goalkeepers last season, but different squad rules in the Championship mean that luxury is no longer available.

Brad Foster finds new club after Wrexham exit

Those rules mean Parkinson has now allowed four goalkeepers to leave Wrexham.

The plan seems to be quality over quantity, and Luke McNicholas signed for Forest Green Rovers on Saturday.

Three stoppers were released earlier in the summer as Mark Howard, Brad Foster and Liam Hall were all let go.

Foster signed for Wrexham as a free agent after Burton’s injury, arriving as additional cover behind Howard.

Foster initially impressed Wrexham fans and had his contract extended until the end of the season, but was let go as Wrexham clinched promotion.

Port Vale welcomed Foster to training, but he has now completed a move to Scotland with Ross County.

Foster arrives as a replacement for Jordan Amissah, who recently completed a move to Burton Albion.

“With Jordan leaving the club recently we have reacted quickly to replace him and we are delighted Brad has put pen to paper. Brad arrives at a good age with a fantastic physical profile. He is hungry to make an impression at the club and will provide great competition with Ross Laidlaw for us this season,” said boss Don Cowie on Ross County’s official website.

Foster’s arrival has even prompted a reaction from Ross County’s chief executive Steven Ferguson.

Ferguson has told The Press and Journal that he feels Foster is exactly the type of goalkeeper Ross County wanted in terms of his age.

Ferguson noted that Foster has ‘been at big clubs’ but has been down the pecking order and is now ready to shine as a number one.

Foster must still compete with Ross Laidlaw for the number one jersey, but Ferguson is backing him to bring healthy competition to the squad.

“Brad fits the age and profile we were looking for,” said Ferguson.

“He ticked a lot of boxes on paper and, once we spoke to him, it was clear he’s in a position in his career where he’s been at big clubs and been part of the goalkeeping set-up where he’s been a number two or three.

“Now he wants a real opportunity to be a number one. We’ve got Ross Laidlaw and we want competition for places. These two goalkeepers will want to be number one and that will be healthy competition for the squad,” he added.

Wrexham fans didn’t see much of Foster, but will certainly wish him the best as he heads up to Scotland for his next move.
