Wrexham are yet to make a signing this summer, but Phil Parkinson is expected to splash the cash before the Championship season begins.
Wrexham have rapidly risen from the National League to the Championship – and Rob McElhenney wants more success.
A fourth straight promotion is a big ask, but a busy transfer window could put Wrexham right in the mix at the top of the Championship table.
Reports suggest Wrexham are ready to spend this summer as Phil Parkinson looks to bolster his squad.
No signings have arrived just yet, but rumours are rife, from Tom Cairney considering a Wrexham offer to CF Montreal’s Sunusi Ibrahim being a surprise target for Parkinson.

Reporter claims Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds ready to splash the cash at Wrexham
Wrexham fans are eager to find out who Parkinson will bring to the STōK Cae Ras this summer, with some big names already rumoured.
Cairney, Aaron Cresswell, Danny Ings, Craig Dawson: the list just goes on and on.
Wrexham won’t only sign players over 30, despite what rival fans may say, and reporter Alan Nixon has offered insight into Parkinson’s plans.
Speaking on BBC Radio Lancashire, Nixon suggested that Wrexham are ‘throwing monster cash’ at potential signings, especially free agents.
Wrexham may take the view that committing hefty wages to players who can sign without transfer fees is a fine balance.
Nixon claims that both Wrexham and Birmingham City have ‘serious targets’ in mind, with ‘big, big wages’ on offer to those potential signings.
“I understand that Wrexham are throwing monster cash at players after promotion, certainly on free agents. You’re talking maybe £25,000, £30,000-a-week. That will put them right up the top of the Championship pay scales, behind probably only the relegated clubs,” said Nixon.
“There’s no doubt that Wrexham and Birmingham have come into the Championship and have completely changed the food chain. The number of players I’m hearing getting mentioned with them… I know it’s an easy link to make for a lot of players who want a move, ‘well yeah, Wrexham are after me’, but I’m finding out five or six serious targets they have and we are talking about big, big wages,” he added.
Trust Phil Parkinson’s stance on experienced signings
Wrexham are often accused of only signing players over the age of 30.
We took a look at the numbers and found that year-on-year, the average age of Wrexham’s signings has been coming down.
There have been a number of players over 30 linked this summer, though, with the aforementioned Cairney the headline target.
Aaron Cresswell and Craig Dawson have been approached, while Danny Ings and Ben Davies are on the radar too.
If Phil Parkinson has shown us anything in the last four years, it’s that we should probably trust his judgement.
Parkinson has signed players over 30 throughout his time at Wrexham, landing the likes of Ben Tozer, James McClean and Steven Fletcher.
All of those signings made major contributions and became fan favourites at the STōK Cae Ras.
Committing big wages to ageing players tends to be a recipe for disaster, but Wrexham have been getting it right.
The level of player – and therefore the wages required – now go up a level or two, but Parkinson’s eye for a veteran player could bring more success to Wrexham this summer and beyond.
