Wrexham owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob Mac are keen to further invest in Phil Parkinson’s squad this summer, with three players linked with a move to the Racecourse Ground.

Wrexham have endured a challenging start to proceedings this summer, as Phil Parkinson still awaits his first Championship win with the Red Dragons.

The Red Dragons came close to their first Championship victory this weekend, but Wrexham were held by Sheffield Wednesday despite holding a 2-0 advantage at half-time.

It has been a slow start to the season, considering the vast investment behind the scenes by Wrexham owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob Mac, and they look set to throw more money at the problem as they eye three midfielders, one of whom could cost £7.5m.

Wrexham eye Southampton star Will Smallbone alongside two other midfielder targets

Via Alan Nixon on Patreon, Wrexham have reportedly sent offers for three different midfielders, including a £7.5m offer for Southampton’s Will Smallbone.

The Southampton midfielder has been left out of the Saints’ squad for every Championship fixture so far, despite the Irishman notching 18 appearances in the Premier League last season.

Nixon also states that Wrexham have also ‘made a move’ for Jordan James from Rennes, with Ryan Reynolds and Rob Mac ‘talking about outbidding Parma and Ipswich’.

A third offer has also gone in for West Ham United central-midfielder Andy Irving, who is regarded as a back-up target for the Red Dragons if their pursuit for Will Smallbone or Jordan James goes pear-shaped.

Sky Sports pundit has already told Wrexham why to sign Will Smallbone

Whilst he would arrive for a significantly high fee, it would be a brilliant signing if Wrexham could snap up Will Smallbone from Southampton.

The midfielder is available after becoming surplus to requirements under new Southampton boss Will Still, which provides a golden opportunity to snap up a proven Championship talent.

Via Football League World, Sky Sports pundit Don Goodman gave his verdict on the midfielder, and how it could be a big loss to the Saints, considering the ability he has shown previously in the Championship.

“Will Smallbone played every single game in Southampton’s Championship promotion season a couple of seasons ago (23/24),” said Goodman.

“He contributed seven goals and four assists as well from a holding midfield role, which was absolutely brilliant. I remember him scoring some really vital, important goals as well.

“I suppose every player has a price tag and if somebody’s willing to meet the £8 million, then clearly Will Still and Southampton would sanction that. But I think he’s a player that they really could use this season.

“You need competition for places and if they let him go, they would probably be a fraction light in that area. But it’s down to the new head coach. Will Still obviously prefers other players to Smallbone at the moment.

“If you’re Smallbone, you would want no doubts about regular first-team football.”
