Wrexham could be poised to sign former Cardiff City loan man Sivert Mannsverk from Dutch giants Ajax this summer.

So far this summer, Wrexham have welcomed Ryan Hardie, Danny Ward, Liberato Cacace and George Thomason to the Racecourse.

They’re four decent signings ahead of the club’s return to the championship following more than 40 years but fans know much more is needed if Wrexham are to compete once again next season.

During the pre-season tour and after defeat against Sydney FC, Wrexham fans called for more new signings at the club.

Phil Parkinson answered with the signings of Cacace and Thomason and now Wrexham look set to sign Josh Windass too.

Reports state that Windass is set to sign a three-year deal with Wrexham after it was claimed that the 31-year-old was undergoing a medical with the Welsh club.

And there are more names being linked with a move to Wrexham this summer, one such name being Ajax and former Cardiff City loan man Sivert Mannsverk.

Wrexham transfer target Sivert Mannsverk set to leave Ajax

Last week, Wrexham were linked with a move for Mannsverk. He spent the second half of last season on loan with Welsh rivals Cardiff City, featuring 13 times in the Championship but being unable to prevent the Bluebirds from relegation to League One.

Despite that, Cardiff City fans spoke positively of Mannsverk. They hailed his technical ability in the midfield, suggesting that he was the right player simply at the wrong time for the club. Latest news coming out of the Netherlands now states that Mannsverk has no future at Ajax anymore.

Dutch outlet Voetbal Primeur reports such and they add that there is more serious interest in Mannsverk who has been tracked by some time by clubs in Germany and the UK. For Wrexham then, it seems that Mannsverk is set to leave this summer, potentially on a permanent deal given the fact that he has no future at Ajax.

Sivert Mannsverk to Wrexham could save £5m in the transfer market

Mannsverk is a central midfielder, he is a tiring player and a physical threat and that will be vital in the Championship next season. Not only that, but the Cardiff fans say that he is a very good technical player too, so he looks like he could be a good all-round signing for Parkinson next summer.

That said, it looks like Mannsverk arriving could spell the end of Lewis O’Brien’s rumoured move to the Racecourse. Reports earlier this summer revealed that Wrexham agreed a £5m deal to sign O’Brien from Nottingham Forest but that the player’s wages were holding up a potential move.

Mannsverk may be a much cheaper player in terms of wages and maybe in terms of the potential transfer fee too. And at 23 years old, he’s slightly younger than O’Brien. So on the whole, it seems like Mannsverk might be a more preferable signing for Parkinson this summer.

Though we can’t rule out another midfield signing, nor can we rule out the eventual signing of O’Brien who looks nailed on to leave Forest this summer either way.
