Wrexham are reportedly in the race for one former Premier League and England international star, who is very well known to USMNT boss Mauricio Pochettino.

The summer transfer window has now closed, and Wrexham managed to bring in 14 new players as Phil Parkinson looks to make sure his side can withstand the pressure and the challenges of the Championship.

With a flurry of activity in recent months, which have been activated by Ryan Reynolds and Rob Mac’s ‘aggressive’ transfer stance, Wrexham’s squad has been transformed.

However, Parkinson might be keen to add one more notable face to the camp.

Wrexham can still sign free agents, and they have a reported interest in one former Premier League wonderkid, but will have to battle with the might of Tom Brady-owned Birmingham City to attain the attacking midfielder.

Wrexham set to battle Birmingham City for Dele Alli

It has been reported, via The Mail, that Wrexham are set to challenge both Birmingham City and West Brom to sign Dele Alli.

Dele, 29, was released by Serie A side Como after struggling to cement a place in Cesc Fabregas’ first-team set-up, leaving the Englishman without a club once again.

The former Tottenham Hotspur man enjoyed a glittering start to his career, notching a move to Spurs from MK Dons, where he instantly shone at Premier League level.

In three Premier League seasons, the attacking midfielder managed 37 goals and 27 assists for Mauricio Pochettino at Spurs, who is now the USMNT boss.

Unfortunately, Dele soon fell out of favour at the club, which led to spells at Everton, Besiktas and Como, where he has struggled to find his feet.

As a free agent once again, Wrexham could be his safe haven to refind his form.

USMNT and former Tottenham Hotspur boss Mauricio Pochettino loves Dele Alli

Wrexham target Dele Alli may not quite be at his best, with it being nine years since he recorded a double-figure goals tally, but USMNT boss Mauricio Pochettino certainly thinks that he could still refind his form.

Pochettino has always been a huge admirer of Dele, even amid the struggles, having said in 2019, via The Guardian: “It’s still there inside of him. If you go back, we all criticised him. But I said I liked this Dele Alli, because sometimes players being a bit naughty makes that difference. The devil is going to appear again. I don’t know when. But for sure it will.”

While Phil Parkinson has sufficiently brought in enough players this summer, with there being no prominent concerns regarding squad depth, a deal to bring Dele to the club could definitely help bolster this area.
Dele could be a fine alternative to Christian Eriksen as well, who has also been linked with a move to Wrexham in the summer.
