Wrexham are set to snap up a new striker ahead of the Championship season, but are also looking towards a talent for the future.

Phil Parkinson is a busy man as Wrexham look to complete a raft of new signings.

Wrexham signed Liberato Cacace on Friday as days of speculation culminated in the New Zealand international signing from Empoli.

George Thomason is poised to join Wrexham from Bolton Wanderers, and Josh Windass will undergo a Wrexham medical ahead of sealing a free transfer move.

Three in a matter of days would be huge for Wrexham, but there could be more with Ajax midfielder Sivert Mannsverk also eyed by Parkinson.

Wrexham are focusing on first-team additions right now, but one talented teenager has also been targeted this summer.

Wrexham target Shay Reid impresses for Preston North End

Reports earlier this summer suggested that Cliftonville striker Shay Reid is on Wrexham’s wish list.

Reid just turned 18 on Friday and has been attracting interest off the back of exciting displays in Cliftonville’s youth ranks.

The striker has already been on trial at Celtic twice, and Wrexham have been eyeing up the teenager for a potential move to the STōK Cae Ras.

Reid is currently on trial at Preston North End, though, and he actually played against Wrexham in a youth team friendly on Saturday.

As noted by agent Benjamin Heath, Reid bagged two goals and one assist for PNE, dazzling against Wrexham.

Reid’s father Liam has posted clips on social media, showcasing the teenager’s goals while admitting that Reid had a ‘great week’ with the Lilywhites.

North End may now have confidence of being in the box seat, but if Wrexham needed any proof of Reid’s quality, Saturday’s encounter should do the trick.

Wrexham looking for stars of the future

Wrexham have certainly invested in tried-and-tested performers under Parkinson, aiding the rise through the leagues.

Many suggest that Wrexham only sign players over the age of 30, but that is not the case; Wrexham have been signing plenty of players under the age of 25 in recent times.

Wrexham recently snapped up teenager Connor Thorley, with the Welsh youth international arriving from Manchester United.

Reid is also being eyed up by Wrexham, and while there is significant competition, it’s clear that signing young talents is a focus at the STōK Cae Ras.
