Wrexham are busy in the transfer market with another signing now believed to be close after the arrival of Liberato Cacace.

Wrexham had secured two summer signings before the pre-season tour of Australia and New Zealand, with Danny Ward and Ryan Hardie arriving.

Phil Parkinson was still hoping to bring in new signings, and Wrexham are exploding into life in the transfer market.

Wrexham signed Liberato Cacace on Friday, with the New Zealand international finalising a club-record move from Empoli.

George Thomason has undergone a Wrexham medical ahead of signing from Bolton Wanderers, while Ajax midfielder Sivert Mannsverk is on Wrexham’s radar.

Reports claim that Wrexham want to spend £10million on a new striker, but a bargain addition looks set to join the attack.

Josh Windass set for Wrexham medical

Hardie’s £700,000 arrival brings proven Championship quality to Wrexham and another former Rangers man has been targeted.

Reports early in July suggested that Wrexham wanted to sign Josh Windass from Sheffield Wednesday.

Windass and Michael Smith both left Wednesday just days ago, ripping up their contracts after the Owls failed to pay wages recently.

Now a free agent, Windass seemingly isn’t wasting any time in deciding his next move.

Give Me Sport claim that Wrexham have now agreed terms to sign Windass and a medical is expected to take place on Monday.

Coventry City and Norwich City are both still trying to hijack the deal, but Windass is expected to become a Wrexham player.

Windass is thought to have held talks with Wrexham boss Parkinson in recent days, speaking remotely due to the tour Down Under.

Windass appears to have liked what he heard and is ready to become a key part of Wrexham’s transfer flurry.

Where Josh Windass fits in for Wrexham

Windass is a truly versatile attacker and has played in so many different roles across spells with Accrington Stanley, Rangers, Wigan Athletic and Wednesday.

Windass predominantly played as an attacking midfielder last season, but also operated as a right winger or striker.

Parkinson utilised a 3-5-1-1 system at times last season, with Elliot Lee dropping off the striker to connect midfield to attack.

Windass would be ideal for that role, having shown the quality to pick up the ball between the lines and either drive at defenders, create chances for others or go for goal himself.

Windass has hit 40 goals in 173 Championship games across his career and will now be expected to make a major impact for Wrexham, possibly working just off a centre-forward.
