US fan reaction to Lewis O’Brien leaving LAFC tells Wrexham fans all they need to know about their new signing

Wrexham fans are riding a wave of excitement following an incredible week in the transfer market.

Phil Parkinson has broken the club’s transfer record twice in a week, firstly securing the signing of Liberato Cacace from Italian outfit Empoli.

Talented, young midfielder George Thomason was then added to the ranks and he was joined by the exciting arrival of Josh Windass on a free transfer from Sheffield Wednesday.

Wrexham broke their club record with Lewis O’Brien once again after the midfielder arrived from Nottingham Forest in a deal believed to be worth around £5m.

O’Brien spent half a season on loan at Los Angeles FC and the fans’ reaction to his departure back in February, tell Wrexham fans that they have acquired a real gem.

Los Angeles FC fans were sad to see Lewis O’Brien depart

O’Brien left Los Angeles to join Wrexham’s Championship rivals Swansea on loan during the last transfer window.

Upon his departure, the US fans took to X to show their gratitude towards O’Brien’s efforts at the club and expressed their sadness over his departure.

One fan wrote: “Very good player and I enjoyed his time with LAFC. Think we could have really used him this season. Unfortunate that we couldn’t work it out. Best of luck to him.”

Another fan wrote: “Aw man he was good he was really good.”

One LAFC fan was angered by the MLS salary restrictions and believes that O’Brien was another victim of the rule, they wrote: “Another MLS salary restrictions victim! It’s really getting old.”

O’Brien quickly became a fan favourite during his time in America and made a huge impression on the MLS during his 18 appearances there.

Wrexham will now be hoping that the 26-year-old can continue to make history in North Wales following his move from the Premier League.

The Red Dragons have already achieved three successive promotions and are now looking to cause one or two surprises during their first campaign in the second tier for 43 years.
