Wrexham are in desperate need of a new striker this month as goals continue to elude the majority of their forwards.
Steven Fletcher was praised by Wrexham fans against Shrewsbury Town when he scored in what was only his second League One start of the season.
Fletcher has now got six league goals this term – more than any other centre-forward on the Red Dragons’ books.
Away from the 37-year-old who is out of contract in less than six months, however, the rest of Wrexham’s number nines just can’t find the back of the net.
Wrexham fans are pleading with Phil Parkinson to make signings in January but with just over two weeks of the window gone, no new faces have arrived.
But Michael Smith is of interest to the Red Dragons once again this month after previously being linked in the summer.

Danny Rohl quizzed on Michael Smith amid Wrexham links
The 33-year-old has five goals and four assists in the Championship this term and would no doubt add extra firepower to what is currently a limp Wrexham attack.
Smith is out of contract with Sheffield Wednesday at the end of 2024/25, with fans no doubt hoping this would help them land the forward.
However, when speaking this week, as per The Star, Danny Rohl was quizzed on links to Sheffield Wednesday duo Josh Windass and Smith.
And he suggested that if the Owls continue to play well, there’s a ‘good chance’ they can keep their players despite interest.
Rohl said: “Of course we have some interesting players now at a good age that perform on a good level.
“If we are doing well and we make a lot of things right, there is always a good chance to keep players here and convince them.
“We have created an identity here and we show them. I think the relationship between my players and the staff and the relationship with me is a big, big part. It means if they get a request they will not immediately jump away.
“But of course if you are successful – and at the moment we are not bad – then the interest from other clubs will come. We will try to develop and push more and more.”

Wrexham alternatives to Michael Smith
Smith had a slow start to life under Rohl but has been given a more integral role in 2024/25.
Should he end up staying at Hillsborough, the Welsh outfit will have to act quickly to get another centre-forward through the door.
Jayden Danns has been linked to Wrexham, with the Liverpool gem keen to garner more playing time in the coming months.
Patrick Bamford and Ryan Hardie are of interest as well, though a transfer for the Leeds United man seems unlikely.
