Wrexham are exploding into life in the final few days of the January transfer window with players coming and going from the club.

Wrexham confirmed the signing of Sam Smith from Reading for what is believed to be a club-record transfer, after having already captured the signature of Ryan Longman.

Fans are delighted with the signing of Smith, who has proven pedigree at League One level having already scored 11 times this season for Reading.

However, there has been one departure from the club as Wrexham look to balance the books and the midfielder in question will join up with former team mate Jon Dadi Bodvarsson at Burton Albion.

Wrexham announce departure of James Jones to Burton Albion

Wrexham have announced the departure of James Jones to Burton Albion after making 138 appearances for the club.

The Scottish midfielder scored 16 times in total for Wrexham and was an integral part of the club winning promotion from League Two, having made 32 appearances in the promotion winning season.

Phil Parkinson has reacted to the departure of Jones by stating: “We wish James all the best. He’s been with us right from the start of this journey and he’s really contributed over the last few years.

“We’ve lived through a lot with him, on and off the pitch. He’s a great lad and we wish him and his family all the best for the future.”

Wrexham’s transfer business may not be over

Having completed the signing of Smith and announcing the departure of Jones, Wrexham’s business looks set to continue before the deadline on Monday 3rd February.

Wrexham are interested in signing Jay Rodriguez and have already begun talks on a package for the striker.

Should a deal be struck for the Burnley man, it would cast huge doubt over the futures of Ollie Palmer and Paul Mullin as the striking department would be very congested in the Wrexham squad.

It is certain to be an exciting and interesting few days at the club both on and off the pitch with the matter of a trip to Crawley Town also on the agenda.
