Wrexham are aiming to bring at least one player to the club in the January transfer window.

The Welsh powerhouse are showing no signs of slowing down in their quest to secure another promotion this season.

Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney have already guided Wrexham from the National League to League One and could now see the club plying their trade in the Championship next term.

2024/25 is proving to be the club’s toughest test of their new era, however, with the likes of Birmingham City and Huddersfield Town having more money and a higher quality of player following stints in the Championship.

To compete with these sides, Wrexham are set to make signings in the January transfer window.

The main area expected to be strengthened by the Red Dragons next month is centre-forward.

This week, an insight into who the club could sign has emerged, with Wrexham linked with Leeds United’s Patrick Bamford.

What Jurgen Klopp said about Wrexham target Patrick Bamford

Leeds expert provided an insight into Bamford following his links to Wales, highlighting why he could be a good fit for Parkinson’s side.

Elsewhere, Wrexham fans may be interested to learn what former Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has said about their latest transfer target.

In a report from GOAL, it was revealed that Klopp actually tried to sign Bamford back in 2021 when still manager of the Reds.

During the same year, speaking in April, the German lauded the Wrexham target, with his verdict on the player no doubt music to the ears of the Red Dragons faithful.

He said: “He’s an exceptional player. “The work-rate is outstanding, and he still plays the football he plays on top of that, and scores goals. That’s rare.”

“They were saying that Leeds need a proper goalscorer, Bamford is not good enough, stuff like this. I’m so happy that he could prove them all wrong!”

What Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney must do to sign Patrick Bamford for Wrexham

Klopp’s comments suggest Bamford would be very well-suited to plying his trade with Wrexham.

However, while fans may be excited by a potential transfer, the finances involved in such a deal may prove tricky for the club to compete, even with the backing of Rob and Ryan.

Capology claim that the Leeds man is currently earning a whopping £70,000-a-week – nearly 10 times more than any Wrexham player.

Bamford would surely have to take a wage cut if he joined the Red Dragons, but even if he’s willing to half his salary, that would still break Wrexham’s wage structure.

As they continue to move up divisions, it’s inevitable they will have to start paying new and current stars more.

In turn, Reynolds and McElhenney must now decide if Bamford is the man they are going to begin taking that step with.

The Americans have always been smart in how they spend their money since buying the club, but the prospect of signing a Premier League-proven centre-forward may see the Wrexham owners opt to properly splash the cash for the first time.
