Wrexham have performed admirably to reach third place in League One so far this season, with the right deal in the January transfer window having the potential to catapult their promotion challenge.

Transfer rumours have continuously swirled with Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney in control of Wrexham, but the stakes ahead of the upcoming window have never been higher.

EFL pundit Carlton Palmer believes that Wrexham should sign a striker to boost Phil Parkinson’s side to a third-successive promotion, with potential names already circling.

Tom Bradshaw was linked with the Red Dragons in the summer and could return to his home country of Wales from Millwall, whilst Wrexham held talks with Michael Smith in August and could return for the Sheffield Wednesday man in January.

Whoever the target is, Parkinson will know that adding more goals to his side will be the difference between promotion and another season in League One. Thankfully, Wrexham CEO Shaun Harvey has given the all clear for incomings in the window.

Shaun Harvey plans for ‘active’ Wrexham transfer window

It seems as though Harvey isn’t looking to plan for a future in League One at the Racecourse Ground, according to a report from Wales Online.

Speaking at a Kick4life charity event in New York, Harvey said: “Rob and Ryan have always supported Phil’s ambition. We will be active in the transfer market during January, because we’re in a position of strength.

“If we go any further forward from where we are now, we get promoted, and that is the objective. It’s difficult to say what and where, because there’s still six weeks to go before the window opens.”

He continued: “Then it is a case of who’s available, and who will actually strengthen us. We’ve had a policy of trying to ensure that we sign players, not just for this division, but for the next division as well.”

This will be music to Parkinson’s ears as he looks to complete the most remarkable of feats with the triple-promotion. However, it will be hard for the Wrexham coaching staff to ignore the pressure getting this job done given the substantial backing.

Luckily, though, Harvey believes that Wrexham will be able to attract a quality of player that will make Parkinson’s job a little simpler.

Harvey believes Wrexham can attract talent from higher divisions

The Red Dragons are no strangers to buying players from higher leagues to help in their promotion campaigns, but Harvey believes that this process should be easier for the club this time around.

He said: ““Fortunately, it’s easier now with the higher we get in the leagues, because players never really wanted to drop down. We had to pay for that privilege and we called it the non-league tax.

“Where we are now is that there are players that would come to play for Wrexham in League One that would not play for any other club in that division. That’s what we’ve been able to create so I suspect we’ll be busy.”

Recent signing Matty James also claimed that Championship players will join Wrexham if given the chance. If Harvey and James are both right, Parkinson should have no issues in finding a promotion-winning striker, something that is sure to have Wrexham’s promotion rivals worried.
