A Wrexham flop who struggled at the club has now completed a transfer this summer.
Wrexham released eight players when they announced their latest retained list in May 2025.
Fans will say goodbye to previously key stars such as Steven Fletcher and Mark Howard.
Fletcher played an especially important role in the club’s latest campaign, but as they continue their rise up the EFL, their squad will continue to be shaken up.
We saw this in 2024 after the Red Dragons won promotion to League One, with Wrexham releasing several players last summer as well.
Among those was a player who arrived fairly early in Ryan Reynolds’ and Rob McElhenney’s stint as owners.

Wrexham flop says he has now joined ‘big club’
Wrexham signed Scott Butler on a free transfer in October 2022 when the player was without a team.
Butler was released by the Welsh outfit last summer after a very underwhelming few years at the Racecourse Ground.
In fact, despite joining the club when they were still in the National League, the centre-back didn’t make a single senior appearance for Wrexham.
Butler went on to join Marine FC, but also struggled for minutes with them as well.
Scott Butler career appearances
Wrexham: 0
Swansea City U18: 16
Swansea City U23: 1
Marine: 7
Now, it has been confirmed that the Wrexham flop has completed a transfer to Warrington Town.
Butler has commented on the move, as per Warrington Worldwide, saying: “I’m looking forward to getting back in. I can’t wait to get going. Hopefully I can use that experience, I’m only 22 but I feel like I’m not a young lad any more, and so I want to play a big part here. The goal is to finish as high as possible and see what we can do.
“Paul didn’t have to sell it to me. I’ve been here before, I know it’s a great fanbase and it’s a big club for the level, and I have worked under Paul before at Nantwich so I know how he works and it was a big pull for me.”

Every player released by Wrexham in 2025
In total, eight players left the Racecourse last month.
- Steven Fletcher
- Mark Howard
- Josh Adam
- Jordan Davies
- Harry Dean
- Brad Foster
- Liam Hall
- Sam Dalby
Some had racked up plenty of appearances for the Welsh side, but others, like Butler, struggled.
Adam arrived after being let go by Manchester City and looked a shrewd free-agent addition.
However, he didn’t make a single League One appearance during his brief spell at Wrexham.
Liam Hall also found minutes hard to come by, while Brad Foster was only brought in on a short-term deal amid the club’s goalkeeper crisis midway through 2024/25.
