Wrexham are in talks to sign midfielder Stuart Armstrong this summer and there is a strong belief they can land him, Wrexham Insider understands.
Will Boyle’s Wrexham departure means that the squad is slowly being whittled down to allow for new recruits at the Racecourse Ground and midfield is a priority position for Phil Parkinson.
Wrexham are interested in Ryan Teague from Melbourne Victory and are also monitoring Lewis Travis of Blackburn Rovers.
Tom Lawrence is another target available on a free transfer but it is Armstrong who the club believe they have a ‘very good chance’ of luring to North Wales.

Wrexham in talks to sign Stuart Armstrong
Wrexham’s interest in Armstrong comes after the player was released from Championship rivals Sheffield Wednesday at the end of his contract.
Wrexham face Southampton in their season opener and Armstrong played 214 times for the south coast club, he could face off against them if a move develops to the Red Dragons.
TBR Football’s chief transfer expert Graeme Bailey has revealed that talks have opened with Armstrong over a move and Wrexham have a ‘very good chance’ in the race.
Bailey stated: “Stuart Armstrong is a player Wrexham like, his experience and knowledge is really appealing to Phil Parkinson and there is a very good chance we see him in North Wales, but there are a number of Championship clubs interested.
“They have talked to him [Armstrong] – he is an option they have always liked along with Tommy Doyle and Tom Cairney.”
Stuart Armstrong’s Championship record
Armstrong has spent much of his career in the top divisions of England and Scotland, with Southampton and Celtic respectively.
However, the midfielder also has some Championship experience, as well as 53 caps for his country Scotland – players don’t come more reliable than the 33-year-old.
| Stuart Armstrong’s Championship record | Appearances | Goals | Assists |
| Armstrong | 53 | 5 | 8 |
Where he would play under Parkinson would be an intriguing watch, Armstrong has played in a deeper central midfield role towards the back end of his career.
However, he is equally adept at playing as a number ten or as a winger, in Wrexham’s system he would most likely be used in a midfield trio alongside Ollie Rathbone and Matty James.
