Wrexham appear to be closing in on signing Coventry City’s Ben Sheaf, but other midfielders are also being linked.

Phil Parkinson is looking for more business even after a busy summer of transfers at the STōK Cae Ras.

Wrexham have made 10 signings this summer, and number 11 seemingly isn’t too far away.

Reports suggest that Wrexham are set to sign Ben Sheaf from Coventry City in a £6.5million move.

The Sky Blues captain will undergo a medical with Wrexham on Monday ahead of completing a deadline-day move.

Wrexham are still looking at other potential signings, though, with a couple of other midfielders in the mix.

Wrexham interested in Kenny McLean

Parkinson admitted his interest in signing Jordan James from Rennes, while reports on Sunday claimed that Wrexham are keen on Everton teenager Harrison Armstrong.

A deal for Sheaf is now imminent, but reporter Pete O’Rourke also claims that Wrexham are keen on Norwich City’s Kenny McLean.

It’s suggested that Wrexham are lining up a late move to sign McLean, but so are Scottish side Rangers.

McLean currently serves as Norwich captain and made his first start of the season in a 2-0 win at Blackburn Rovers on Saturday.

The 33-year-old is still highly valued at Carrow Road, but – much like Sheaf – he is out of contract in 2026.

Wrexham may target a late move for McLean, but it’s unclear whether he would be in addition to Sheaf or an alternative target to the Coventry skipper.

Rangers move may appeal to Wrexham target Kenny McLean

Wrexham signed Conor Coady despite Rangers interest, and the Gers also wanted Callum Doyle before his move to the STōK Cae Ras.

Rangers have missed out on two targets to Wrexham, but a fight for McLean may be a little trickier.

McLean is a boyhood Rangers fan who spent time in the Ibrox youth ranks before shining with St Mirren, Aberdeen and Norwich.

The veteran midfielder is regularly linked with a move to Rangers, and told The Athletic in 2021 that a move to Ibrox would be ‘pretty special’.

The Wrexham project has appealed to plenty of players this summer, but few would blame McLean if he preferred a move to Rangers, given his lifelong love for the club.
