Wrexham are facing competition for one of their summer transfer targets as a Champions League club now plot a move.

Since winning promotion to the Championship, the Red Dragons have been linked with some major names in recent weeks.

Ben Davies to Wrexham has been mooted, with talks having taken place between the club and player.

Christian Eriksen signing was also discussed, though that deal may prove a step too far from Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds’ club.

Elsewhere, a number of current Championship stars have been linked during the summer transfer window.

Last week, it was reported that Wrexham want to sign Josh Windass, with the player now ready to leave Sheffield Wednesday amid the club’s ongoing financial crisis and inability to pay wages.

Rangers rival Wrexham for Josh Windass

Windass has a year left on his Owls deal, but a FIFA rule means players who aren’t paid for two months in a row can request their contracts be terminated.

In turn, Wrexham could end up signing the Sheffield Wednesday ace for free if he does see his contract terminated.

But the Championship club are now facing some heavy competition from the player, who has been earning £1.04m-a-year at Hillsborough, as per Capology.

The Star have published a report on Wednesday, in which they mention Wrexham’s interest in the midfielder.

And they add that Rangers, one of the player’s former clubs, are now considering a move for Windass.

Josh Windass stats

Windass played the majority of the previous campaign as an attacking midfielder for Sheffield Wednesday, though he also enjoyed spells on the right.

In 2024/25, the 31-year-old scored an impressive 13 goals and assisted five in 44 league fixtures.

That’s five more than any Wrexham player managed last term, despite being in a lower division.

In total, the versatile midfielder has 40 goals and 17 assists in 173 Championship appearances.
