Wigan Athletic’s manager, Ryan Lowe, has now commented on a future transfer for Wrexham striker Paul Mullin.
After losing his place at Wrexham in the second half of 2024/25, Paul Mullin joined Wigan Athletic on a season-long loan this summer.
Mullin made his first appearance for Wigan over the weekend, featuring in their opening pre-season fixture of 2025.
Ryan Lowe commented on signing the Wrexham striker, sharing how keen he was to get a deal over the line.
He’s since given his verdict on Mullin’s first Wigan appearance, saying: “Mulls had a few good chances, a little bit of rustiness in there. On another day, he puts two of them in.”
Now, the manager has been discussing turning loan deals into permanent signings.

Will Wigan Athletic sign Paul Mullin permanently
The finances involved in Mullin’s transfer meant a permanent deal this summer would have been hard for Wigan, as Lowe already explained.
He is not the only player to join the Latics on a short-term basis, however, with Callum Wright also arriving on loan.
In a recent interview, Lowe was discussing turning Wright’s deal into a permanent one, as per Wigan Today.
And when doing so, he seemed to hint that the League One outfit will have the opportunity to make Mullin’s move from Wrexham a permanent one.
He said: “I said I don’t want too many loans, but when you get offered a Paul Mullin on a good deal…there definitely could be something for him down the line, again that’s in our hands as well.”

Do Wigan have an option to buy Paul Mullin from Wrexham
Mullin remains under contract with Wrexham until the summer of 2027.
When Wigan links first emerged, there was a suggestion the Red Dragons could let him leave for free, though that didn’t prove to be the case.
Details of Mullin’s loan move to Wigan have since come to light, including if there is an option to buy.
However, it’s not believed the third-tier side have the option to do so, as journalist Nathan Salt previously explained.
He said: “I’m led to believe: 50/50 on the wages, no option to buy there, recall option in January.”
