Wrexham are ready to spend in the summer transfer window, with Phil Parkinson ready to battle enormous clubs for potential signings.

Wrexham are preparing for life in the Championship and Phil Parkinson needs new recruits.

Winning three promotions in a row was a remarkable achievement, but Parkinson knows the enormity of the challenge ahead.

Parkinson wants more pace and power at Wrexham, with additions being eyed up all over the pitch.

Experienced heads have been linked, with Aaron Cresswell wanted at Wrexham after his West Ham United exit.

Younger players have also been linked, with Wrexham’s interest in Lewis O’Brien particularly intriguing.

Wrexham have a genuine chance to sign Valencia target Lewis O’Brien

Parkinson appears to be keen on adding a left-footed midfielder this summer – or possibly even two.

Wrexham have eyed Tom Cairney as his Fulham contract comes to an end this summer.

Nottingham Forest midfielder O’Brien is also on Wrexham’s wish list, following a loan spell with Swansea City.

The 26-year-old has barely featured for Forest since joining from Huddersfield Town in 2022, spending most of his time out on loan.

After spells with D.C. United, Middlesbrough, Los Angeles FC and Swansea, O’Brien may fancy leaving Forest for good.

Wrexham are in the race, though reports suggest Valencia also want to sign O’Brien.

The mere notion of a transfer battle between Wrexham and Valencia would have sounded completely bizarre at almost any other time.

Valencia were beaten Champions League finalists in both 2000 and 2001, losing to Real Madrid and Bayern Munich.

The Spaniards have been through real trouble on and off the pitch in recent times, but they are still a simply enormous club.

Just a few years ago, any transfer battle between Wrexham and Valencia would have had only one winner.

Now, you have to feel that Wrexham have a genuine chance to tempt O’Brien to North Wales over Spain.

Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds’ takeover means Wrexham are aiming for the Premier League, and few clubs can match the buzz around the club right now.

Heading to Valencia may well appeal to O’Brien, but the chance to be a part of such a special Wrexham project means Parkinson has a real chance to win this race.

Carlos Corberan key to any Lewis O’Brien move to Valencia

One man we can’t overlook here is Valencia boss Carlos Corberan.

The Spaniard quit West Bromwich Albion to join boyhood club Valencia earlier this year and has already impressed with 11 wins in 24 games.

Corberan knows O’Brien very, very well having worked together in Huddersfield Town’s run to the Championship play-off final back in 2022.

A reunion appears to be a top priority for Corberan, and that connection poses a major threat to Wrexham’s hopes.

An energetic midfielder who has proven himself in the Championship, O’Brien would be a seriously impressive addition to Wrexham’s engine room.

Whether Wrexham can beat Valencia remains to be seen, but the hype around this project means there is at least a chance.
