Wrexham can leave Swansea City reeling as Phil Parkinson eyes two exciting summer signings

Wrexham haven’t yet made a new signing ahead of the Championship season, but will surely burst into life soon.

Wrexham beat Charlton Athletic just over a month ago, securing a place in the Championship in the process.

Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds have funded another Las Vegas promotion party since then, bringing the curtain down on another brilliant season.

Wrexham have now begun saying goodbye to some first-team players, with Steven Fletcher saying goodbye to the STōK Cae Ras.

Mark Howard is retiring and others could move on, with Paul Mullin recently linked with a move to Wigan Athletic.

Phil Parkinson will already have potential signings in mind, and two targets would leave Swansea City feeling sick.

Wrexham could leave Swansea City reeling amid Harry Darling and Lewis O’Brien interest

We have seen so many names being linked with moves to the STōK Cae Ras.

Wrexham allegedly want Tom Cairney as his Fulham contract runs down, whilst speculation surrounding Aaron Cresswell is now emerging.

Wrexham won’t just target 30-somethings; Parkinson will also want some younger players this summer.

Reports earlier in May suggested Wrexham want Harry Darling, with the centre-back poised to leave Swansea City as things stand.

As if that wasn’t enough, The Sun’s Alan Nixon suggests Wrexham are vying with Preston North End and Valencia for the signing of Nottingham Forest midfielder Lewis O’Brien.

The mere notion of Wrexham being in a transfer fight with Valencia sounds completely bonkers, but it’s the new normal with McElhenney and Reynolds involved.

Swansea will be desperate to keep star defender Darling, and director of football Richard Montague told BBC Sport that he would love to re-sign O’Brien.

O’Brien spent the second half of last season on loan at Swansea, making a big impact in South Wales.

Wrexham are now looking to snatch both Darling and O’Brien, potentially hitting Swansea with a double-whammy in the transfer market.

Cardiff’s relegation means Swansea and Wrexham will be in a straight fight to be the top Welsh club in the English league system next season.

Swansea may be an established Championship side, but Wrexham have a chance to make a real statement by snatching both players from the Swans’ clutches.

Where Harry Darling and Lewis O’Brien would fit in at Wrexham

Eoghan O’Connell was outstanding for much of this past season, whilst Wrexham fans hailed Dan Scarr as he impressed late in the campaign.

Darling would seemingly play in the middle of Wrexham’s back three, though, creating strong competition for places in the heart of Parkinson’s back line.

O’Brien offers so much energy in midfield and he could provide real balance as a natural left-footer.

Cairney and O’Brien are both left-footers, with Parkinson seemingly looking to add a player of that ilk this summer.

O’Brien and Ollie Rathbone would offer legs and attacking quality in the Wrexham engine room, with a sitter such as George Dobson or Matty James providing defensive cover behind them.

That certainly sounds like an exciting mix, with both Darling and O’Brien able to offer immediate quality at Championship level – if Wrexham can secure them both this summer.
