Wrexham transfer target left on the bench in 3-0 MLS defeat as frustrating season continues

Wrexham could look towards the Major League Soccer market this summer as Phil Parkinson chases attacking additions.

June is now upon us and the summer transfer window is about to really burst into life.

Wrexham are yet to make a signing since clinching promotion to the Championship, but that is not a huge surprise.

Phil Parkinson’s first signing of last summer only came on 22 June as Arthur Okonkwo joined permanently from Arsenal.

Wrexham have plenty of time to strengthen before the Championship season begins, and attacking additions appear to be a priority.

Steven Fletcher is leaving Wrexham this summer and few would be surprised to see Paul Mullin and Ollie Palmer follow after their limited action in 2025.

Wrexham target Sunusi Ibrahim an unused substitute

Danny Ings has been linked with Wrexham but Parkinson may look a little further afield.

Reports just days ago suggested Wrexham are interested in Sunusi Ibrahim and are leading the race for the CF Montreal attacker.

Ibrahim is a fascinating target, given that he has shown potential in Canada, but consistent first-team football has been elusive.

The Nigerian hit six goals in 25 MLS games last season but has managed just 50 minutes of action across seven appearances this term.

Ibrahim’s season has been incredibly frustrating, playing just five minutes since a one-minute appearance against Chicago Fire on 30 March.

After not being in the Montreal squad at all in the last four games, Ibrahim was back on the bench against New England on Saturday night – but he didn’t come on.

Montreal were beaten 3-0 at home by New England Revolution but Ibrahim remained kicking his heels on the bench.

Ibrahim certainly seems to be fading out of Montreal’s plans and his lack of action will surely pave the way for a summer move.

Wrexham were described as being favourites for Ibrahim, and if that interest is true, Parkinson will have surely paid close attention to his substitute role on Saturday.

Wrexham targeting younger players alongside the experience

We have heard it all before, with rival fans suggesting that Wrexham only sign ageing players.

Wrexham’s average age has actually been coming down in terms of players recruited, even if there have been links to a host of players in their 30s in recent weeks.

Wrexham are also being linked to younger players, though, with 22-year-old Ibrahim one of them.

Brentford’s Myles Peart-Harris is on Wrexham’s radar, while Harry Darling and Lewis O’Brien would come in at 25 and 26 if they can be secured.

Parkinson has been attempting to strike a blend of experience and youth, as seen with deals for the likes of Okonkwo, Lewis Brunt and Sebastian Revan last summer.

More developing talents such as Ibrahim may be on the radar this summer, as Wrexham look to build a squad not just for next season, but also for the years to come.
