Paul Mullin is slowly getting back to scoring form since leaving Wrexham, with four in 12 total games for Wigan Athletic so far.
Wrexham fans are keeping a close eye on how Paul Mullin fares at Wigan Athletic this season, after the 30-year-old striker left to join the League One Latics on loan.
It’s been a slow spell at times for the striker. But Mullin scored for Wigan in their win over Bolton Wanderers recently, taking his tally to four in 12 total games for the club.
In League One, Mullin already has three goals in nine games: as many goals as he scored in 26 total League One games for Phil Parkinson’s Wrexham last season.
It’s a far cry from the numbers he was putting up in League Two and in the National League for Wrexham. But it’s a step in the right direction, and the stats are looking positive for Mullin.

Paul Mullin among the leading strikers in League One after leaving Wrexham
Whilst three goals doesn’t sound like loads, it makes Mullin the joint third-highest scorer in League One this season, albeit tied with a horde of other players too. And Mullin actually ranks very highly in some of the key attacking stats in League One so far this season.
In terms of goals-per-90, Mullin scores a 0.69 which places him 8th in the entire League One roster. On top of that, the Wrexham hero ranks third for expected goals-per-90 (0.79) and also for shots on target-per-90 (1.8).
With his goals record improving and his stats looking good, Mullin looks as though he’s quickly getting back up to speed. But it’s still a long season and the striker has a long way to go to prove any doubters wrong, especially with Wigan fans having mixed feelings about Mullin so far.

Paul Mullin’s stats in 25/26 vs 23/24, he’s actually better this season
Mullin was bang in form during Wrexham’s promotion-winning 2023/24 season in League Two. He scored an incredible 24 goals in 38 league games that season, and whilst goals is the main stat here, his metrics this season are very similar to his metrics from that 2023/24 season. In some cases even better.
Comparing the above three statistics, Mullin is actually performing better in two of them, and in a higher league too. Albeit we’re only a handful of games into this season whereas his stats from 2023/24 were from the season as a whole.
| Statistic (league) | Mullin in 25/26 | Mullin in 23/24 |
| Goals-per-90 | 0.69 | 0.72 |
| Shots on target-per-90 | 1.8 | 1.6 |
| Expected goals-per-90 | 0.79 | 0.5 |
Nonetheless, it’s certainly very interesting to see how Mullin is out-ranking his stunning 2023/24 season in certain stats, and it could suggest that another big goal haul is on the horizon for a striker who so desperately needs one.
Wrexham return to action against Derby County this weekend whilst Mullin’s Wigan Athletic play Cardiff City.
