Wrexham are expected to add to their squad in the 2025 winter transfer window but some of the names being linked are surprising.
Prior to the January transfer window getting underway, we revealed Wrexham want to sign Ethan Wheatley from Manchester United.
The young forward’s experience at senior level is very limited but he’s bagging goals for the Red Devils at youth level.
Wrexham are in serious need of a number nine who can score goals this season given Paul Mullin is very out of form compared to 2023/24 and Ollie Palmer’s ability to find the back of the net continues to decline.
However, some of the names being linked this month so far are pretty bizarre and Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney may have to have a word with Phil Parkinson.

Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney must be confused by Wrexham transfer targets
Earlier this week, it was reported that Plymouth Argyle striker Ryan Hardie has been linked to Wrexham.
The forward has a £2m release clause, which would force the Red Dragons to smash their transfer record to land him.
However, the 27-year-old has scored just one goal in 20 Championship appearances this season with Wrexham fans against a Hardie move.
Meanwhile, on Friday evening, news broke that Cauley Woodrow is wanted by the Red Dragons this month.
Yet again though, Woodrow has been goal-shy this term and is yet to find the back of the net in 2024/25.
Given the Welsh outfit are crying out for an in-form goalscorer, it seems bizarre they’re being linked with so many struggling forwards.
Parkinson revealed Reynolds and McElhenney’s role in Wrexham’s transfers late last year, stating the duo don’t get involved until a deal is close.
But with Wrexham seemingly only looking at centre-forwards who just aren’t scoring enough right now, the Hollywood pair may have to speak with Parkinson to find out more about why he’s seemingly looking at these players.

Wrexham goal record compared to League One rivals
Wrexham go into the latest round of League One fixtures sat third in the table.
They were knocked out of the automatic promotion places by Wycombe Wanderers after losing to Barnsley in midweek.
Wycombe and Birmingham City have games in hand on the Red Dragons at present yet they have both managed to score more goals in the league this term.
| Team | Goals scored (games played) |
| Wycombe | 49 (23) |
| Birmingham | 38 (22) |
| Wrexham | 36 (24) |
A new striker should fix this issue for Wrexham in January but only if they sign the right target.
