Wrexham have not made a dream start to the Championship, as they currently sit directly above the relegation zone after collecting only four points in their opening five matches.

The Red Dragons will travel to Carrow Road this weekend to face Norwich City to course correct this form and to bring an end to a 55-year wait for a victory over the Canaries.

Phil Parkinson has now admitted that there may be significant changes for Wrexham in this fixture with Norwich as the club go in search of their second Championship win of the season.

The Wrexham manager has announced that the duo of George Thomason and Josh Windass will return to the squad this weekend, which could have a serious impact on the changes expected for the Red Dragons.

Phil Parkinson admits there could be a change in formation for the Norwich City match

Speaking ahead of the Norwich City game this weekend in the Championship, Phil Parkinson has admitted that there may be a need to change formation to get a result.

As pressure grows on the manager, with talks being held about the future of the position he currently holds, Parkinson may be willing to experiment to see a change of fortune and to solve some of Wrexham’s defensive woes.

In conversation with The Leader, he said: “It’s my job and Steve’s (Parkin) job and the rest of the coaching staff to formulate the group and get a group understanding of what we’ve done well at periods this season because we’ve had a lot of periods, even in the home games, where we’ve been really good.

“But it’s obvious we can’t give up the chances we have done, certainly at home. It’s as simple as that, and we’ve got to find a solution to that.

“Is it personnel or is it tweaking the shape of the team? We’re looking at all that to come up with a formula we believe can give us a stronger base to go and win games of football.”

There have been candidates linked to the Wrexham managerial role, despite Parkinson still being employed at the helm of the Red Dragons.

Pressure around his job is coming from the £33 million the club spent in the summer to add quality to the squad for the Championship, with Darren Bent believing this will be the downfall of Parkinson.

Speaking with The Leader, Parkinson said: “I think everybody knows it’s a huge step up.

“People talk about the money we’ve spent, and we’ve had great backing from the owners.

“But when you progress so quickly to get a core of Championship players in the building, that’s what it’s going to cost, and we’re up against teams who’ve got those ready-made Championship players already.

“We’ve had unprecedented success with the three promotions, and to give us a chance at this level, we’ve spent money, and we’ve changed the squad around.

“If you look at the quality we’ve got, I think it’s there for all to see.”
