Wrexham face a must-win game on Easter Monday when they go head-to-head with Blackpool at Bloomfield Road.

Phil Parkinson’s men head into the game sitting in third place in the League One table, having dropped points in each of their last two fixtures.

Wrexham followed up their dire 0-0 draw away at Wigan Athletic with an even worse 1-1 draw with an out-of-form Bristol Rovers side at the SToK Racecourse on Good Friday, salvaging a point thanks to a goal from Matty James.

The result against Bristol Rovers, coupled with Wycombe Wanderers’ impressive 2-0 win away at Bolton Wanderers, means the Phil Parkinson‘s men are now one point adrift of Wycombe in race for the final automatic promotion.

The Welsh outfit are well aware that Easter Monday’s meeting with Blackpool is a win-or-bust game for the club’s automatic promotion hopes. And while Wrexham were able to beat Blackpool 2-1 the last time the two faced off, one start has emerged that will concern fans heading into their second meeting of the season.

Wrexham’s record in Easter Monday away games will concern fans

As well as hoping to end a run of two games without a win, Wrexham will also be aiming to end a worrying run of form in recent trips away from home on Easter Monday.

Rather remarkably, Wrexham have lost each of their last three games away from home on Easter Mondays in the Football League, conceding at least two goals in each of those defeats. This stat is even more worrying when once considers how free-scoring Blackpool’s attack has been during the 2024/25 season – scoring the third most goals in League One so far.

Wrexham fans will take some consolation from the fact that the most recent game of this stretch came way back in 2004 during a season in which the Welsh outfit finished 13th place in the then-Second Division – now named League One. On that Easter Monday, Wrexham were beaten 2-1 by Hartlepool United while on a run of four straight defeats.

Last season, Wrexham played their post-Easter fixture on the Tuesday instead of Easter Monday, suffering a 1-0 defeat away at Doncaster Rovers. That defeat was the only one the club suffered in any of their final eight games of the campaign, winning the other seven in that stretch to secure promotion to League One.

Wrexham’s last game against Blackpool ended in dramatic circumstances

Wrexham and Blackpool last went head-to-head in League One on Boxing Day, with Phil Parkinson’s side running out dramatic 2-1 winners.

The winning goal came courtesy of an 88th minute Steven Fletcher penalty kick, with Paul Mullin netting the other in the win.

That goal was, surprisingly, Mullin’s last goal in a Wrexham shirt as he has since been completely ostracised from the first-team squad. The club legend has failed to make any of the last 11 matchday squads, and has not played a single minute of football since the end of January.

After the draw on Good Friday, Wrexham fans once again took to social media calling for Mullin to return to action for their team. Given the fixture congestion over the Easter holiday period, Parkinson may finally grant fans their wish on Monday.
