Wrexham will have been keen to get back to winning ways when they returned to action against Peterborough United.
On paper, Wrexham should have been clear favourites for this encounter for a number of reasons.
Firstly, they dispatched The Posh with relative ease earlier in the season in the reverse fixture and were 15 places above them in the League One table prior to kick-off.
Secondly, they have not lost a meeting at the Racecourse Ground since all the way back in March 2024.
However, when the team news came out at 2pm on January 4th, some fans may have been fearful of an upset.
Ryan Barnett missed Wrexham vs Peterborough United completely, while James McClean was dropped to the bench.
This greatly weakened their attacking threat, the majority of which has come from their superb wing-backs this season.

Wrexhams fans in agreement about Ollie Palmer after Peterborough United
Given the changes, it wasn’t surprising to see Wrexham lacking on the attacking front in the first 45 on Saturday.
They dominated possession but yet again, couldn’t make it count. One of the poorest displays from Wrexham’s attack in the first half was Ollie Palmer, who was similarly bad in midweek.
Now, fans have taken to social media to express their frustration at the English and how he played against Peterborough.
One fan wrote: “How Much is Palmer paid for being a footballer??? He’s taking the mick out of Wrexham.”
A second added: “Anyone on for Palmer at half time please,” with a third writing: “Palmer’s headers have been like back-passes.”
“He’s just not good enough anymore,” a fourth Red Dragons fan added.
While a fifth stated: “I like Ollie but he’s been really poor last few games.”

Wrexham need to replace Ollie Palmer
Palmer has been an excellent servant to Wrexham but it’s become clear he’s not good enough to be a regular starter for a League One side chasing promotion.
The 32-year-old’s now started all but one of the club’s league fixtures in 2024/25 yet only scored three goals.
Palmer was hooked at half-time against Barnsley after struggling and the Red Dragons looked much better when Steven Fletcher replaced him.
It was the same story on Saturday as well as the former Sunderland forward secured Wrexham a 1-0 win over Peterborough.
Fletcher isn’t a long-term solution either but Parkinson should consider replacing Palmer with the Scotsman until another nine is signed in January.
