Wrexham predicted lineup vs Port Vale as Phil Parkinson rings the changes for EFL Trophy clash

Wrexham barely have time to celebrate their win over Peterborough from the weekend as they are back in action again in the EFL Trophy this week.

Phil Parkinson celebrated 1,000 games as a manager in style with a 1-0 win over Peterborough at the Racecourse Ground on Saturday afternoon.

The win kept Wrexham in the League One title race, and Parkinson praised the ‘balance’ of his squad when it comes to ensuring they give everything on the pitch to achieve success for the club.

But, the Red Dragons will have little time to dwell on their latest win, as they are in action against Port Vale in the EFL Trophy on Tuesday night.

Wrexham team and injury news ahead of EFL Trophy tie

Lewis Brunt and Elliot Lee missed the Peterborough game due to a calf and hamstring injury, respectively, and they are almost certain to be absent for the trip to Port Vale.

Mo Faal was suffering with illness ahead of the weekend, and while he may have overcome this now, it is unlikely he will be sharp enough to play on Tuesday.

The longer-term trio of Callum Burton, Jack Marriott, and James Jones will all miss the game, too, as they are a while away from recovery.

Wrexham predicted XI vs Port Vale as Steven Fletcher finally starts

With Wrexham hunting promotion this season, it is safe to assume that the EFL Trophy is not necessarily a priority for the Red Dragons, so we can expect a fair few changes for this upcoming game.

Parkinson is very likely to rotate his Wrexham squad and offer some players a much-needed rest after a hectic festive period.

At the back, Arthur Okonkwo is just back from injury and will relish the chance to build up his match sharpness. But, in front of him, we could see a rare appearance from both Dan Scarr and Will Boyle.

In midfield, we expect to see the same central three that started against Peterborough, especially after Ollie Rathbone’s ‘top drawer’ display.

Jacob Mendy got the nod ahead of captain James McClean, and we envisage he will retain his place for this cup game, while Luke Bolton should feature on the right, as he has in the competition thus far.

Up top, the ‘incredible’ Steven Fletcher will surely get a starting spot after his recent run of form from the bench. He will partner Paul Mullin in attack, who will be desperate to get among the goals against League Two opposition.
