Wrexham predicted XI, team and injury news as Ben Tozer starts v Accrington Stanley

Wrexham are back at the Racecourse Ground ground on Saturday as they play host to Accrington Stanley in League Two.

The Reds are fourth in the table and trail third-place Crewe Alexandra by a single point after drawing against Forest Green Rovers on Tuesday.

Phil Parkinson required a 93rd-minute penalty from Paul Mullin to spare his blushes in that match as their travel sickness continued having won just one of their five away matches in February, although starting March with a home fixture against Accrington Stanley can get them back on track.

After all, Wrexham have accumulated the most points at home (38) across the entire division and all three must be secured against John Coleman’s side, who won 2-0 in the reverse fixture.

Sadly, Parkinson does have a few absentees for this match and the latest of those is centre-back Eoghan O’Connell, who picked up an injury against Forest Green.

Likewise, James Jones, Thomas O’Connor and George Evans are still working their way back to full fitness and have been huge misses to the starting lineup.

Wrexham have just played two games in the space of three days, so Parkinson could make a few changes to his side.

Here’s our predicted XI for the clash…

Wrexham predicted XI v Port Vale

Arthur Okonkwo has been fantastic since arriving on loan from Arsenal in the summer and whilst his side have struggled in recent weeks, he’s popped up with some vital saves.

Luke Bolton has been underwhelming since joining from Salford City on deadline day, whereas Ryan Barnett received praise from Parkinson after “looking dangerous” against Gillingham.

With Barnett starting at right-back, the Wrexham boss will make one change to his back three with Ben Tozer potentially replacing the injured O’Connell and slotting alongside impressive youngster Max Cleworth and 27-year-old Aaron Hayden.

James McClean was lavished by Parkinson for the professionalism he’s shown this term and he continues at left wing-back, where he will look to provide quality ammunition into the box.

As for the midfield, captain Luke Young will sit at the base. He recently surpassed 250 appearances in a Wrexham shirt and leads by example in the engine room.

The ever-reliable Andy Cannon will flank the 31-year-old with Elliot Lee aiming to supply a goal threat from midfield.

Despite netting 14 in the league, only one of those strikes have come in his last 12 matches and rediscovering his best form could be the catalyst for Wrexham’s promotion charge.

Meanwhile, Parkinson’s biggest dilemma is always picking the two strikers. We expect Paul Mullin to start after scoring in midweek with veteran Steven Fletcher continuing next to him, although a strong case could be made for Ollie Palmer.
