Zeros across the board for Wrexham’s latest debutant vs West Brom may worry Phil Parkinson

Wrexham’s record signing, Nathan Broadhead, made his Dragons debut at the weekend against West Brom.

Wrexham’s winless start to their 2025/26 Championship season continued at the weekend with the testing visit of West Brom to Wales.

Wrexham lost 3-2 to West Brom thanks to an outstanding display from Baggies playmaker Isaac Price, whose impressive brace made the difference.

Summer signing Lewis O’Brien performed well against West Brom with his first-half equaliser, but the combative midfielder could not inspire the Dragons’ first league win of the season.

Having said that, neither could club-record signing Nathan Broadhead, whose Dragons debut could spell worry for Phil Parkinson.

Statistics behind Nathan Broadhead’s Wrexham debut vs West Brom

Wrexham signed Broadhead in a club-record deal worth up to £10million, and the former Ipswich Town forward was quickly thrust into the Wrexham action by Parkinson against West Brom.

Ahead of the Baggies clash, Parkinson confirmed Broadhead could play, and the 27-year-old started on the bench at the weekend.

After summer signing Josh Windass suffered an injury against West Brom after just 30 minutes played, Broadhead was introduced by Parkinson in place of his fellow forward.

Ryan Reynolds called Broadhead a “machine” before his debut display on Saturday, but the statistics behind his performance prove that Parkinson must grease his wheels going forward.

In his 61 minutes on the STōK Cae Ras field, Broadhead registered zero shots on target and created zero chances for his new Wrexham teammates.

With Windass’ injury, Broadhead will likely start for Parkinson in Saturday’s home clash against Sheffield Wednesday, Windass’ former employers.

Phil Parkinson needs Nathan Broadhead to shine vs Sheffield Wednesday

Wrexham have not struggled for goals at the beginning of the 2025/26 season so far, but that does not make the need for Broadhead to get off the mark quickly any less important.

Forward Windass scored on the curtain-raiser at Southampton from the penalty spot, Elliot Lee and Ollie Palmer’s brace put three past Hull City in the Carabao Cup, with O’Brien and Sam Smith scoring against the Baggies.

Wrexham’s top goalscorers so far this season in all competitions do not include Nathan Broadhead or Kieffer Moore.

One glaring omission from Wrexham’s goalscorers in their first three games this season is summer signing from Sheffield United, Kieffer Moore.

Not only will Parkinson be hoping for Broadhead to get among the goals for Wrexham, the Dragons manager will also be keen to see the club-record signing link up with Moore.

Broadhead’s ability to link play and find pockets of space in dangerous forward areas must help provide the Wrexham number nine with service, which will hopefully see both Broadhead and Moore get off the mark.
