Wrexham produced a superb performance on Monday afternoon, beating Blackpool 2-1 at Bloomfield Road.

Matty James predicted twists and turns in the League One promotion race – and he was proven right almost instantly.

Wrexham drew 1-1 with Bristol Rovers on Friday afternoon, handing the advantage to Wycombe Wanderers.

Phil Parkinson needed a response and got one as Wrexham beat Blackpool 2-1 on Monday afternoon.

Wrexham’s mood was given another boost as Wycombe lost 4-0 to Charlton Athletic, leaving Wrexham two points ahead of the Chairboys.

Now potentially just two games away from the Championship, another promotion is in Wrexham’s hands.

Andy Morrell hails Wrexham defender Dan Scarr

Blackpool boast a great home record, so Monday’s clash was viewed as a real tough one for Wrexham.

Parkinson’s side got the job done and played some fantastic football along the way.

Blackpool boss Steve Bruce praised Wrexham, suggesting that the better team on the day ultimately won.

One man who really impressed was defender Dan Scarr as he turned in a strong performance in the heart of Wrexham’s back line.

Eoghan O’Connell picked up a knock against Bristol Rovers and was left on the bench as a result.

Wrexham fans raved about Scarr as he turned in a brilliant display and former striker Andy Morrell has joined in.

Speaking on Wrexham Match Day Live, Morrell suggested that Scarr was ‘insanely good’ in the Wrexham defence.

Morrell felt that Scarr handled Blackpool striker Ashley Fletcher very well, heading everything away in a rare start.

“I thought Dan Scarr was insanely good at the back, he came in and headed everything when Fletcher is a real handful up at the top end of the pitch,” said Morrell.

“I thought he did brilliant,” he added.

Dan Scarr proof of how every Wrexham player must be ready

This time as week ago, Scarr may have wondered whether he would make another appearance this season, never mind starting.

O’Connell’s knock handed Scarr a chance to shine, though, and he took it with both hands.

Scarr racked up 15 clearances, 10 successful aerial duels, two tackles and one interception in a superb display.

This is just proof of how you never know when your chance is going to arrive, and every Wrexham player must be ready and raring to go whenever called upon.

Scarr’s display may have even secured his spot in the starting lineup against Charlton Athletic this weekend, with his performance exactly what Parkinson is looking for from a player who hasn’t started many games this season.

It’s a tough call for Parkinson to make with O’Connell likely to be fit to start this weekend, but Scarr has done himself no harm with Monday’s display.
