Andy Morrell makes ‘horrible’ point as he names three Wrexham stars worthy of Man of the Match vs Burton

Wrexham were able to pick up a 1-0 win over Burton Albion in a tough League One test on Saturday.

It was a pretty dire game all around but Wrexham beat Burton 1-0 thanks to a 65th-minute goal from Elliot Lee.

The midfielder, who managed to score the only goal of the clash from a corner, was by no means excellent on the day but his effort has seen the Red Dragons move level on points with Wycombe Wanderers at the top of League One.

Wrexham fans all made the same Lee point after his goal, but the 29-year-old, despite his ridiculous effort, was probably not the best player on the pitch.

The stats suggest Eoghan O’Connell was Wrexham’s best player vs Burton, with the centre-back superb for the second game in a row.

However, the Wrexham legend was left really torn after watching his former side eke out a 1-0 draw on December 7th.

The Burton fixture was nearly called off due to Storm Darragh and though the match did go ahead, the conditions were dreadful.

Rain continued to pour across the 90 minutes, with the soaking wet pitch and high winds making the clash pretty unwatchable at times.

After the game, Morrell took to X/Twitter to give his verdict on the match and was quick to point out the ‘horrible conditions’.

He also couldn’t pick out a specific Man of the Match, giving mentions to all of the back three – Max Cleworth, Lewis Brunt, and O’Connell.

Wrexham defensive record compared to League One rivals

As Morrell mentioned, Wrexham have now kept a staggering 12 clean sheets in 19 League One fixtures this season.

At the other end of the pitch, their strikers are continuing to misfire, with Paul Mullin missing yet another huge chance to end his goal drought after coming off the bench on Saturday.

In turn, if Wrexham are to win promotion to the Championship this term, they are going to have to rely heavily on the defence.

And right now, the Welsh side are outperforming all of their promotion rivals when it comes to goals conceded.
