Birmingham City have lost one of their key players ahead of the Championship clash with Wrexham on Friday night.

Birmingham City and Wrexham meet in the Championship on Friday, after the two teams won automatic promotion from League One last season.

In the end, Blues stormed the league, finishing 19 points ahead of Wrexham in 2nd. But there’s little separating the two teams this season.

After Wrexham’s 1-1 draw against Leicester City in midweek, the Dragons sit in 15th place of the Championship table compared to Birmingham City in 12th, with two points between the sides.

In their last outing, Birmingham City drew 2-2 with Sheffield Wednesday at St Andrew’s.

Birmingham City suffer Ethan Laird injury blow ahead of Wrexham game

Ahead of the game at the Racecourse on Friday night, Birmingham City boss Chris Davies has revealed some worrying news on full-back Ethan Laird, who missed the last game against Wednesday after picking up an injury in the previous outing against Coventry City.

Davies told Birmingham Live: “Ethan is unfortunately an injury that will take him some time, a few months, which is a real blow. A real blow to him and us. He’s had it assessed and looked at, and unfortunately it was as bad as we feared it would be. We won’t see him for a few months.”

Davies also revealed that star striker Jay Stansfield was forced off with an ankle injury against Wednesday. But he failed to reveal whether or not he’ll miss the Wrexham game.

Wrexham vs Birmingham City score prediction shared

Wrexham look like they have a bit more momentum than Blues going into this one: Phil Parkinson’s side have lost just one of their last eight in all competitions whilst Birmingham City have only won one of their last five in the league.

And after a positive result away at big-hitters Leicester City in midweek, Wrexham will surely be raring to return to North Wales and pick up their first win of the season against newfound rivals Birmingham City.

Ahead of the game, though, EFL expert Benjamin Bloom has predicted Birmingham City to beat Wrexham on Friday night, in a 2-1 scoreline.

Wrexham have just one clean sheet to their names this season and have scored in every game so far, so goals can be expected in this one. That said, Blues have only scored three in their last five, failing to score in three of those games.

Kick off is at 8pm on Friday night with the game being shown live on Sky Sports.
