Wrexham have achieved great success in the Rob Mac and Ryan Reynolds era, but they experienced an early setback.
Wrexham claimed a first Championship win before the international break, beating Millwall 2-0 away from home.
Phil Parkinson has been the real mastermind behind Wrexham’s success, having put together three successive promotion-winning campaigns.
Hollywood duo Rob Mac and Ryan Reynolds tend to grab the headlines, though, as is only natural for two men with such huge reputations.
Mac and Reynolds have overseen incredible success, with the FA Trophy final defeat to Bromley in 2022 now a distant memory.

Bromley CEO hails Wrexham’s Ryan Reynolds
This was the first chance of real silverware under Mac and Reynolds, as Wrexham reached a Wembley final against Bromley in 2022.
All the stars were in town as David Beckham and Will Ferrell sat alongside Mac, Reynolds and Kaitlin Olson.
The day ended in heartbreak for Wrexham, though, as Bromley ran out winners with a 1-0 victory.
Wrexham came so close to a memorable day in the first season under Mac and Reynolds, but it just wasn’t meant to be – and Wrexham then missed out on promotion.
That Wembley win was a huge moment for Bromley, and CEO Mark Hammond has now reflected on the victory.
Speaking on The Business of Sport podcast, Hammond felt that beating Wrexham was a real statement victory for Bromley at the time.
Hammond heaped praise on Ryan Reynolds, admitting that he showed a ‘moment of class’ by congratulating Bromley on their win.
Hammond noted that Reynolds could have simply gone home, but he took the time to show a personal touch with Bromley – and that is something Hammond will never forget.
“We were the underdog against Wrexham, Ryan Reynolds, and you know, Andy and the team, they did it, they beat Wrexham 1-0,” said Hammond.
“That moment I think put us on the map as ‘we’re coming’. We was already in the journey, but that really sort of cemented that we’re part of something, we’re on something, and we’ve just beaten Wrexham and Ryan Reynolds and Rob.
“But I have to say, at the start of the game, there was the entourage, and you had David Beckham and Will Ferrell. The mark of the man; after the game, 15 minutes after everybody had gone, Ryan Reynolds walks out and he shook the owner’s hand, my hand, and he stood with us for 15 minutes congratulating and talking normal, just a real human being, and I thought that was class because he could have gone home.
“He had Netflix and Disney and Rolls-Royces and all of the grandiose stuff that comes with, you know, being an A-lister, but he took the time to come down and shake our hand and wish us all the best. I’ll never forget that, and it was a moment of class, and I’ve taken that that’s how you need to act and be humble in defeat,” he added.
How many players remain from Wrexham’s FA Trophy final defeat?
Three years is a long time in football, but especially for Wrexham.
Parkinson has overseen major changes with his playing squad, especially with Wrexham making 13 signings this summer.
If you look back at Wrexham’s starting XI from the defeat to Bromley, only one player remains – defender Max Cleworth.
Christian Dibble, Liam McAlinden, Ben Tozer, Callum McFadzean, Jordan Davies, James Jones, Luke Young and Ollie Palmer have all moved on.
Thomas O’Connor and Paul Mullin were also involved, but had been loaned out by Wrexham ahead of expected permanent exits.
O’Connor joined Peterborough United last week, while Mullin joined Wigan Athletic over the summer.
Reece Hall-Johnson, Daniel Jarvis and Jake Hyde came on from the bench and all have moved on, while fellow substitute David Jones is now part of Parkinson’s coaching staff.
Wrexham have gone through major changes since that defeat to Bromley, but Reynolds’ personal touch with everybody he encounters has certainly remained constant.
