Wrexham picked up their first league win of the season on Saturday beating Millwall 2-0 at the Den.
Wrexham went into the game against Millwall winless in their opening three Championship games.
In their last outing, Phil Parkinson’s Wrexham drew 2-2 with Sheffield Wednesday to put their first point on the board and now the Dragons have four for the season.
Kieffer Moore scored the first goal of the game at The Den, heading home for his fourth of the season. Lewis O’Brien scored a second late on as Wrexham beat Millwall 2-0.
Here are five things we learned about the Dragons after their win at Millwall…
Five things we learned about Wrexham after the 2-0 win against Millwall

Phil Parkinson needs to get more from his wing-backs
Parkinson’s setup should be one that really emphasises the wing-backs. But in the game against Millwall and in games so far this season, the wing-backs have been far too ineffective. Teams that have successfully played back five, as Wrexham have in the past, will see their wing-backs getting right up and down the pitch – it’s still not quite right for Wrexham.
But Wrexham’s game against Millwall saw the likes of Liberato Cacace, and Ryan Longman often found too deep. It made Wrexham look at times very unthreatening, and whether that’s to do with the full-backs or to do with the setup altogether is something for Parkinson to mull over.
Kieffer Moore is absolutely vital for Wrexham
Already this season, Moore has scored four goals in five games for the Dragons. Wrexham signed Moore from Sheffield United earlier in the summer and so far Moore has fitted into Parkinson’s Wrexham set-up perfectly.
His goal against Millwall was actually his first headed goal of the season in the league and it surely won’t be the last with Moore’s height and aerial prowess making him a real outlet for the Dragons. As good as he is though, it’s worrying that Parkinson doesn’t really have another striker like him. An injury to Moore would be a real blow for Wrexham.
Lewis O’Brien has found his scoring boots for Wrexham
Lewis O’Brien was a big signing for Wrexham this summer. Parkinson tried for weeks to bring the Englishman from Nottingham Forest, and he eventually signed in a £3m deal. And his goal on Saturday was his second of the season so far.
Speaking after scoring his first for the club during Wrexham’s 2-2 draw against West Brom earlier in the month, O’Brien revealed how he’s set himself a higher goals tally this season, with four goals being the most he’s ever scored in a single season.

Wrexham can handle the tough Championship grounds
After a strong away performance and a good result on Saturday, Wrexham have proved that they can handle the most hostile of Championship stadiums. The Den is always referred to as one of the most difficult places to play away at, but Wrexham showed that they’re not fazed by such games.
Having now played away at Southampton and Millwall, Wrexham have got a good taste what the Championship is all about and it will hold them in good stead going further into the season.
Wrexham’s defence looks settled
Callum Doyle made his first league start for Wrexham on Saturday against Millwall. In midweek, Doyle impressed on his Wrexham debut in the Carabao Cup win over Preston, and the fact that Millwall barely laid a finger on Danny Ward’s goal suggests two things: One, that Millwall’s attack was very poor on the day, and two, that Wrexham’s defence was so good that it made Millwall’s attack look so poor.
The £8m man Doyle didn’t put a foot wrong, nor did the likes of Conor Coady and Max Cleworth alongside him. The three look set to be Wrexham’s heart of defence for this season.
